I suspect that Wanny probably felt that the play was probably too big for a youngster like Page to leave behind him. Wanny didn't want Page in there still thinking about the botch. I don't think it is anything major.

Anything's possible I guess but to bench him for an error he didn't commit seems a bit "over the top" don't you think?
That was a coaching call, but he will say it was because if emotion.Schiano is an expert politician.
My guess is that it was a read... and Page read it wrong. The '9er that scored was probably the read.Page looked like he knew he screwed up.

He said the play was called , they practiced all week, per joebucsfan on twitter
Another bonehead call schiano will call creative.
He also eluded to the fact that it might have been a misread, although I'm not sure that it was on Page to make the read. The rest of the ST squad seemed to have read it the same. Maybe he was supposed to down it because the kick was too deep?
Huh? What I saw was the handoff was closer to Shepard's ribs (side) than to his belly. Did Shepard slip BEFORE the handoff? I saw him slip trying to double back to recover the fumble. I will say I liked the call, as Shepard has some jets, and I wouldn't bet we coulda got an onside kick on the 49ers after a score if they knew it was coming...

Based on Schiano's response to the question during the presser, that is correct. The Bucs have adopted a very aggressive attitude in the 2nd half of the season in attempts to offset their inability to score and stop opponents using traditional methods and it has come home to roost....throwing the kid under the bus should be his last call as coach of the Bucs IMHO.
That was a turrible call at a very bad time. There really was no reason for it.

Ah, could be. Problem there would be blockers in front all "figuring out" what the play was; coulda easily got it screwed up...
Can't make sense out of stupid.
Seems to me, this call came from the sidelines and he executed the hand-off properly. It's unfortunate that Sheppard slipped and the ball popped out but why does Page get benched afterwards? This makes no logical sense...
He sucks as a returner anyway and shouldn't be on this team. That's on Schiano too!
