Actions should have consequences. Maybe the NFL was too harsh on him, idk... Don't really care because he's no longer a brilliant offensive mind. He was a solid commentator imo...
But sending EMAILS of all things with those comments? That just tells me he's stupid.
no doubt you need to watch what you put in emails but 2012 was alot different of a year than 2024
back in those days, men weren’t allowed to play in women’s sports!
Heck just back in 2008, Obama was campaigning that marriage was between a man and a woman. Obviously his actions spoke louder than words later on in his presidency but the country was at a different view point during those Gruden emails versus now as it pertained to Michael Sam.
no excuse for his prejudice comment about the black executive but also wasn’t a Kramer type stand up moment either
he was pretty good at football
He was, particularly in the so-called "QB whisperer" role. I think when Gannon came into the league they were talking about making him a RB. lol
Like most people Gruden is shades of gray, a mixture of good and bad. For example, I think that "QB whisperer" success was also part of his undoing both in term of his patchwork approach to the QB position goign forward from the SB to his FO power struggle that he won but that sure led to a lot of moves that didn't work out. I am a fan of Caddy, but Caddy over Rodgers, right?
But, whatever people will say about him NOW, back THEN he was a HUGE . . . HUGE . . part of the reason the Bucs a Super bowl.
Even players who had big doubts about him before he arrived - Brad Johnson, Brooks, and Sapp as easy examples - became part of the "pound the rock" movement. Johnson talks about calling Gannon when he heard about the Gruden trade and Gannon being right that Gruden would make him better, make the team better etc.
He held the offense accountable (for the first time?) and challenged the best defense EVERY DAY IN PRACTICE
He recruited key free agents. Actually recruited. He was THEN one of the biggest offensive names in football going to the best defense. He was Brady before Brady in terms of recruiting players who played important roles, guys with chips on their shoulders.
His game plans (the 45-0 win over the Bucs in 99). Multiple players (Alstott, Johnson) talked about his ability to not only "X and O" but to IMPART significant, game-specific changes every week to the players in a way they could understand and implement.
ON MERITS he is obviously a Buccaneer ROH guy, but that kind of stuff is not just merits.

You do realize that Gannon was a QB for 12 years prior to playing for Gruden, right?
So, now Gruden is a "QB Whisperer"?
Who exactly did he "whisper"?

Yes, thats actually what I mean. Gannon had sort of a journeyman NFL career and then with the Raiders and Gruden he had a 3-4 year run where he was winning awards. I think he was in his mid-30s maybe.
Right or wrong that was a big part of Gruden's reputation even carrying over to his "QB Camp" thing on TV

Okay. I get that part.
Aside from Gannon though, he hasn't developed squat.
And, his "QB Camp" was just as overhyped as he was.

Anyways, he shouldn't have been removed from the RoH.
And he deserves his well-earned spot...right behind Monte. 😈
Agree that Monte should be in.
the Gruden email thing is actually fascinating because there are only a few people who could’ve leaked them, all with different motivations.
He most likely woulda stayed in the ring of honor if not for the email about the glazers. Its like being backstabbed by a person you considered a friend
Sean Peyton brought him into New Orleans, and Peyton also brought Gruden to Denver.
Could be that you know more about offense than Sean Peyton?
It appears this is just your opinion, I think you’ve come around to admitting his ability to create an offense that even the stud defensive players that support him to this day point to Gruden holding the offense as accountable as Monte held rhe defenese, resulted in the Super Bowl win.
That testimony by the eyewitnesses, is fact.
Everything else is just opinion.
Tony, whom I love, did the opposite in Indy. He found success with someone else’s offense.
Both deserve to remain in Buccaneer ROH.
Its possible to be fans of both Dungy and Gruden.
They both played a huge role in the turn around of the Bucs.
They both had great strengths that brought them success and they both had flaws that interrupted their path
Sean Peyton brought him into New Orleans, and Peyton also brought Gruden to Denver.
So, the Broncos were the other "high powered" team?
Lolz.
By the way, can you provide the link or timeline as to when Peyton brought him in to NOLA?

You mean, EXACTLY like Gruden did with someone else's defense.
Weird...
Both deserve to remain in Buccaneer ROH.
I agree.
And, deservedly, one of them is in Canton.
Fortunately, the offensive guru/QB Whisperer will be there soon. And, I look forward to Bruce's induction.
He most likely woulda stayed in the ring of honor if not for the email about the glazers.
This right here.
He definitely had an email on the Glazers but I think hes not in the ROH because how could he be given the league stance? And the Glazers are sort of league leaders on some of the issues.
Now be honest... When you came up for air after this rant, how many smashed Coors Light cans were you holding?
