I feel like we are moving to a spread with the hiring of Arroyo and Tedford. Could be very fun to watch.

You betcha! The really good thing is Tedford will integrate the run game into it too. He's turned out several very good RBs. I remember the Lions with Barry Sanders used a spread. Doug Martin has GOTTA be pumped!!

Yeah because the head coach should be spending time loads of time focusing on the LBers rather than the whole team.

I have faith that Lovie is going to have influence in the linebackers (even with his head coaching responsibility) and furthermore, and considerably more important, he'll hire someone who will get the most out of what we have.

If you'd like, go ahead and merge this with the other thread about the coaching staff

You mean these guys think spreading the defense out so they can run the ball is a good idea?  I will miss the linemen playing TE and trip TE sets (sarcasm)  We keep heading this direction we might actually keep the d off balance.

I agree with that - maybe he can get an interview with the new HC.

When it comes to an individual position coach, lack of NFL experience isn't nearly the issue that it is as you move up the coaching ladder. Coaching an individual position is about teaching, and that was something Tony Dungy put an emphasis on: hiring position coaches who were good teachers. When you become a coordinator or a HC, that pro-level experience becomes a bigger deal.

Exactly. I'm fine with these hires because they are guys who the ones in charge (Lovie and Tedford) have worked with and are comfortable with. By bringing in coaches who have an in-depth understanding of how the head guys want their schemes coached, makes it easier for the position coaches to teach their players.I believe a lack of NFL experience is mostly just a concern at the head coaching level because there is a lot of off the field stuff that comes with that job.

Growing a little concerned with the lack of NFL experience with some of the offensive coaches. Have to wait and see.

you mean like Chip Kelly?

Hiring college coaches who were good teachers was a tactic that the Bucs used repeatedly with Smith, Marinelli, Tomlin, and Gus Bradley.  Joe Barry also was mainly a college position coach before he was hired.  It didn't always work (see Greg Burns), but it did overall when Dungy and Kiffin were doing the hiring.  Let's hope Smith has as good of an eye for coaching talent as they did.

Interesting that on Thursday in an interview on WDAE, Dungy said he didn't know the guys in the original position group hiring pool and that they were recommended by the scouting staff.

With Lovie and Frazier and their wealth of combined experience I really see no problem with them bring in inexperienced assistants.  I see a lot of fresh new ideas tossed into the mix with the assurance that they require Lovie's blessing to go live.  That sounds good to me.
