How much of a hit would this team take if they cut Davin Joseph, Carl Nicks, Donald Penn, Michael Koenen this offseason? Nicks may get another chance because of his MRSA. But Joseph and Penn can be gone for all I care. Koenen offers nothing another punter won't do for less money.

Joseph, Penn, and Koenen can be cut comfortably. Nicks is a bit more problematic. If I was the Bucs GM I would take my lumps with these cuts in 2014 so you have cap space for 2015 to re-sign McCoy.  Martin, David, and Barron can be addressed down the road.

I Would roll with Nicks one more season to see if he can come back. Penn has been flat out horrible. Joseph pretty much the same but i would consider keeping him around one more season.  Koenen should go ...we should never pay that much for a punter.

Bucs may stick it out with Penn given replacing a LT isn't easy and even IF Dotson can shift over at LT you leave a hole at RT.  Nicks is an interesting case and I think he stays given cap considerations because the alternative sucks lol?  May as well roll the dice and hope he can suit up.

Koenen and Joseph can be cut with no cap ramifications. Penn is a small one of a couple hundred thousand. Nicks is a problem because of the reworking of the contract. I think his cap hit for 2014 if he's released is around $9mil.

Koenen saves $3.25M, no cap penaltyJoseph saves $6M, no cap penaltyPenn saves $7.1M, $667k penaltyReleasing Nicks only saves about $2.2M off the cap but $7M in cash. Total saved by releasing those 4: $18.6M off the cap, $23.7M in cash.If you release those 4, then trade Revis, McCoy, Martin and Jackson and end up with two #1s and two #2s... the Bucs would be sitting $64.1M under the cap with three #1s and three #2s. Nuclear winter, but if you hire someone who knows what they're doing the Bucs would be a powerhouse in 3 years.

You do realize that McCoy's cap hit his is likely to go down with a new contract right?  No way he gets what he got on his rookie deal before the new CBA.

Dom likes to frontload new contracts most of the time.  That way you have plenty of cap space in 2016 to re-sign Martin, David, and Barron.

I agree with everything else you said, but we will save money with McCoy's 2nd contract.  He wont get $10mil/yr with his new one.

29-50Dominik and his plan have FAILED.  I don't care if we have $1 or $100 mill.  This guy sucks at his job.  Let me know when they give out a Super Bowl for cap management.

And what if he says I want 7 years, $70M with $35M guaranteed.

Umm...then you say NO.  Not that difficult.  I love the guy, but he isnt worth $10 mil a year.

He's the 2nd or 3rd best 4-3 DT in the league. Unlike paying D Joseph, this would be worth it.
