Im glad someone else found that idea completely nutty.  Same guy is pitching both the ideas of trading him or giving him a bloated contract.

I'm not pitching the idea of giving him a bloated contract. I'm just telling you he isn't going to take half of what the Bucs just gave Revis.

You pitched the idea of trading him.  Revis got what he got for having a history of being the best CB in the league and shutting down half the field.  McCoy is not the best DT in the league.  I have high doubts that McCoy's agent points to a completely non-guaranteed contract as a starting place for his client's negotiations.

If you release those 4, then trade Revis, McCoy, Martin and Jackson and end up with two #1s and two #2s... the Bucs would be sitting $64.1M under the cap with three #1s and three #2s. Nuclear winter, but if you hire someone who knows what they're doing the Bucs would be a powerhouse in 3 years.

You play too much Madden.

Remind me why would we trade the best or second best DT in the game again?

And what if he says I want 7 years, $70M with $35M guaranteed.

Depends on how it's structured.  And I'm confused by what you said about Atkins' contract.  His extension was for $55 million over five years, right?  I'd be shocked if it weren't used as a baseline for McCoy's contract, but that should put the average value at ~$10m/year.  That doesn't necessarily mean that his cap hit would be $10m for every year of the contract though.

McCoy's rookie deal was for more than Atkins second contract. McCoy isn't going to get less for his 2nd contract than he did on his rookie contract after making a couple of Pro Bowls. I'm not sure where that puts the specific number but it will be a big number.

This was a pre-new CBA contract.  By that logic Matt Stafford and Sam Bradford will be the new highest paid QBs in the NFL soon.  A lot of players taken before this new CBA (particularly those taken in the top 10) will see a smaller 2nd contract than their 1st one.  They are going to use current market value, not past contract to dictate McCoy's new deal.  He will probably get something similar to Atkins.

Stafford's rookie deal was 6 years, $72M. 12M per year. His extension was 3 years, $53M, that's $17.7M per year. 48% increase.

For a running back....An elite DT, top 5 CB, top 12 WR and a RB are building blocks toward a good team. You would make those trades and draft who? Who would be guaranteed to be better than those guys?

If the bucs were willing to make goldson the highest paid safety, revis the highest paid corner, u bet your ass theyre gonna try and make gmac the highest paid DT in the game. This may be naive of me, but unless things go sour between him and the bucs/FO in the next year, I see him coming back and taking some sort of sweetheart deal that is somewhere between the highest DT salary (floor) and the 16M revis makes (ceiling). He seems like the kind of guy who knows he got the benefit of a faulty system (TOP 10 rookie wages pre CBA) and thus on some level he is grateful to the bucs for paying it (albeit they really didnt have a choice). IMO, gmac just doesnt seem like the kind of guy who's gonna want to squeeze everything he can out of his leverage in this situation. Again this is based on my perception of gmac's personality and contingent upon no sour grapes ruining his relationship with the FO by this time next year. Sadly after the Freeman debacle this year, I'm afraid to make any bold predictions regarding the contract situations of any of our first round franchise players

GMAC loves Tampa and this city. That will factor into his contract. Yes, it's a business and he will want fair market value, but he's going to be okay with taking a little less to stay here.I think it'll be in the neighborhood of 10 a year, but front-loaded with lots up front.

No it isn't, you just made that up. Building blocks toward a good team are a Quarterback and pass rush. We don't have either and won't be good until we do. And you're not trading Revis and McCoy for one player. Combined they account for almost $30M in cap room. Giving up a #1, #3 and $16M for Revis, that's 5-6 starters. Drafting a RB in the 1st round is stupid because A. They get hurtB. You can get production from guys off the streetWhat a surprise, Martin got hurt and we got production from a guy off the street/late round pick. Vincent Jackson, great player. But what is a rebuilding team with no QB doing with a 31 year old high priced WR.

By all means...please let me know which teams are going to line up to trade for a $16 mil/year corner.

So you agree the Revis trade was terrible from our point of view?Around the trade deadline I proposed we trade him to Denver.
