Lovie has to get credit for leading a team to the SB with a sh!t QB. Not sure how SP would rank without Brees. Here's hoping Lovie and Glennon can succeed together in this division. QBs make a difference. Tony Dungy gets no nomination for Canton without Peyton Manning.
Hard to say. One could argue that without Manning choking repeatedly that Dungy might have gotten more than one ring.
Here's the thing...with the talent the Saints have had since 2006, they should have been to more than 1 super bowl. Their problem is they overpay for their offensive toys and their defense suffers. They try to make up with it with better coaches there (first Gregg Williams and now Rob Ryan) but they've yet to put two good defense years back-to-back. Now they are on the verge of cap hell and will be lucky if they can afford anyone after they resign Graham. The same kind of thing can be said for the Falcons. A team that has had talent for years, wins well in the regular season, but can't seem to win the big games in the playoffs. It goes without saying....it sucks to go into the post-season and not have a good defense. When you look at history and you look at statistics...Offense wins you games in the regular season, but defense wins in the playoffs. Mike Smith and Sean Payton are good coaches and will have good offenses. But they wont win many rings.
I think who has done consistently well in the NFC south goes like this (in my opinion).SP - obviously done well, although his season without the team was very telling for me. I would like to see him with a football team like the browns, the coaches, the players, the entire organization, that would bolster my decision here.MS - although last season was a disaster, he has been very consistent every year.RR - A year is not enough for me. He needs consistency.LS - He has not coached as a head coach in the NFC south yet. If you want to discuss his track record as a coach with other teams then that's different. But if I had to say as of now, he is 1 or 2.All of this is based off of limited knowledge of these guys before they came to our division, anyway its just my opinion on how I see it.
"They were ready to fire Rivera in September but his team stayed healthy and got hot."So you put Rivera at the bottom because of speculation that he almost got fired, and then totally ignore the fact that Lovie did get fired?
I think (based on what he said in the post) he ranks them as1) Won a Super Bowl2) Got to a Super Bowl3) Sustained regular season success4) One good seasonBut hey, keep up your agenda.
Yeah, assumed that was obvious. Guess not.
Joe Gibbs was probably tied with Parcells for best coach when he returned to the NFC east, but the "what have you done for me lately" NFL proved that a hot coach on an upswing, might be better than a coach with old trophies on the shelf.

The Gibbs comeback tour was a bad idea that I called from the get go. A coach can take a year off from the NFL and usually hit the ground running. I forget how long Gibbs was out for, but the game obviously passed him by during his down time. Part of me laughs every time Gruden's name gets brought up for the same reason.

Gibbs wasn't even following the sport closely during his absence either . He was running a Nascar racing team.Lovie has been studying film during his absence.
So he says..At least, I hope, he's telling the truth.
its homerish, but id take lovie over them all. would anybody take payton against a lovie&brees combo?

The choking aspect was something Dungy cultivated with the Bucs. That's why he was fired. His defense got the team to the playoffs. His offense stunk it up against quality competition. Same thing with the Colts to a degree in the playoffs. If he ever gets in the HOF, he has Caldwell and Manning to thank for it.

Give me Brees and I'll take Schiano back.
