Bucs have more invested in Trask than they do Mayfield. If they lose vs Houston let's see what he has the second half of the season. If he's good then maybe we get hot and make the playoffs. If he stinks then we know we need to draft a QB. But right now this is QB purgatory.
yeah at 3-5, who really cares, I’m with ya
i just am not sure they will do it until December at earliest
remember you and I won’t get fired and are just fans. Bowles is coaching for his life and unless he gets blessing of another year by front office he won’t be doing it so soon

agree with that in theory but not in practice, unless Mayfield is the obvious reason we lost to Houston
Fair or not, as long as there is a playoff hope and mayfield is playing okay, Bowles sticks with him. this is why Buggsy (I think?) had to add that Licht should "step in" for Trask if necessary. If Mayfield tsinks it up, the move is easy for Bowles. If not though, Bowles isnt making the move just to see what the Bucs have in Trask because Bowles may not be here next season
Problem is Mayfield's stats will always look okay because he's playing with a HOF LT and WR and Canales can scheme people open. I feel like Mayfield is leaving alot of meat on the bone. Plus I'm convinced he's checking into bad run calls. Either it's the wrong type of run or shouldn't be a run at all.
Most of them were with a game either way so pretty good.
now, where do they go from here? Anyone want to guess regular season record?
There was a thread before the season asking for 2023 season record predictions. I'll stick with my prediction of 8-9.

Whoa! You may have nailed it!

I don’t think coaches rely on stats as much as they rely on film.
If the Bucs win Mayfield stays even if his play is just average. If the Bucs lose but the offense is clicking, he probably still stays for a while because a move to Trask is perceived as surrender (something the team wants to avoid). If the team loses based on his play they move to Trask sooner.

exactly. factor in that everyone in the division is mediocre and that also prolongs bakers leash
Canales talking about Mayfield suggests he's not going anywhere for now

(Buggsy whatever you do . . do NOT listen to Canales from about minute 12:00 . . at least not UNTIL you've had a snickers bar)
Well the Raiders have seen enough of Jimmy Gs throws sailing over Adams' wide open head. But then again, that franchise has been a dumpster fire for some time now. But at some point the Bucs have to realize Mayfield is missing many opportunities to make big plays and win some of these games that have been slipping away.

Mayfield’s missed opportunities is one reason to wonder if Trask would do better, particularly if he was to come on as the running game was showing signs of life

We're not scoring points in our losses. 11, 6, 13, 18. Mayfield is losing games the same way Garcia was losing games for the Bucs. Not with interceptions, but with punts and FGs.

Good take. During last weekend's poker game I said Mayfield was reminding me of Garcia. I was mainly talking about stature and incompletions, but punts and FGs is more accurate.

we lost to superior teams in Eagles, Lions, and Bills. Aside from Lions, those were losses when the schedule came out. Same goes with 49ers and now appears Jacksonville.
the Falcons loss was very disappointing and would put on Baker for only mustering up 13 points. Pathetic.
we lose to the lowly Texans this week, then it becomes a possibility that playoffs are not a reasonable shot (and wheels have fallen off) and we are looking at a 6-11 record with Baker anyway. that happens, then i ask what's the difference if Trask starts or not.
let's see what he's got but i have no expectation that he will surprise us. if anything, it's playing for a better draft pick.
the reason we will not see Trask so soon is because Bowles is coaching for his career/job. the only way we see Trask is when front office steps in and i am saying given the weak ass division, wont happen until December.
interestingly enough i see the season playing out two ways
1) Optimism
@Hou - WIN
Vs Titans - WIN
@49ERS - LOSS
@Colts - LOSS
VS CAR - WIN
@ATL - WIN
@GB - WIN
V JAX - LOSS
VS SAINTS - LOSS
@CAR - WIN
9-8 (good enough either for division win or #7 seed; we lose in first round)
2) A Buc Life
@Hou - LOSS
Vs Titans - LOSS
@49ERS - LOSS
@Colts - LOSS (BAKER IS REPLACED WITH TRASK IN 2ND HALF)
VS CAR - WIN (TRASK STARTS THE GAME AND WE WIN!)
@ATL - LOSS
@GB - WIN (TRASK IS REPLACED WITH BAKER IN 2ND HALF; REMARKABLE COMEBACK WIN)
V JAX - LOSS (BAKER STARTS THE GAME AND FINISHES SEASON OUT)
VS SAINTS - LOSS
@CAR - WIN
6-11 (good enough for 3rd place in division; mid level pick, not goo enough to get QB pick; likely that Bowles is fired; offensive minded coordinator looking to get his shot gets the nod. Can't imagine that's Canales but wouldn't surprise me.
The wheels are starting to come off and its funny PR doesn't see it. 9-8? You HAVE to be able to score TOUCHDOWNS in the NFL to win games and while we face HOU, TEN, GB - none of those are gimmies b/c they don't let teams drop 30 on them. I see 6 wins

yeah i fear the season ended once we lost the home game to Atlanta. and the score could have been by 17 points if not for some fortuitous turnovers. I understand the adage of woulda coulda shoulda, just saying that could have been a blow out.
like i said in my optimistic view, alot hinges on this weekend. we win and i think 9-8 is possible but yeah a loss to the Texans with 4 in a row and would mean 2 very winnable games being losses; then yeah i dont know how you dont have 6 wins max for this team.
