Should be an interesting situation to keep an eye on. If he does have to retire, i'm pretty sure there will be a settlement of some sort. I'd hate to see it happen to someone, especially someone of his talent.
I feel for the guy. I caught mrsa twice!!!! First time big toe, year later 2nd toe, eventually lost 1/2 my right foot. To make things worse have a permanent limp but at least I made my doctor give me permanent handicapped parking placard When I caught it in orlando hospital 6 years ago you couldn't sue because it's staff infection but years later now you can sue but that doesn't help me now!!!!!
Feel bad for Nicks and what he's going through. Hopefully he'll be able to live a comfortable life. However, I feel like we should cut ties with him this offseason, whether he continues to play or not.
What toe are we talking about with Nicks? I've never heard whether it's the piggy that went to market, or one the one who went wee wee. Either way you have to feel for the man. He got screwed for the rest of his life, and deserves to get paid, which is probably the hold up if lawyers are involved. The man is the best OG in football if healthy though, and when you're that good at something... I still hope it works out.
Yes, I feel so bad he's collecting several million dollars.
there's an ongoing curse at every LG brought in. The curse of Dan Buenning lives forever.
You don't say? Hmmmmm, hate to say I told you so but, I told you so.
As soon as he got his fat contract he mailed it in big time...what he did to us should be illegal. I think he's made more than one million dollars for each game he's played.
I think it's kinda obvious. He's done. Even if he does try to continue playing, he won't be the same player. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Lol. He had a serious foot injury and then got MRSA.....on purpose?
if he retires, we don't, owe him anything else right?
He could initiate a lawsuit if he wanted to go that route. That is why the team never put him on IR all year long. Putting him on IR would assume liability for the team. Now they can argue, who knows where he caught the infection? He may have caught it at home or anywhere but OBP.

We don't owe him any more cash, but counts $7m against the cap no matter what because Dominik gave him a 12M bonus....AFTER his injury.

Yeah, I hope the Bucs are pushing him to give his rehab and training a real go. He's only an extra 2 and change against the cap if he plays next year. We're not going to find a decent guard replacement for anywhere close to that. You got the cash Carl. You can ride off into the sunset next season. Also, overthecap shows his contract as having 4.5+ mil in dead money in 2015 as well, is that possible?

He didn't get an extra $12M. They just restructured his contract to move $12M of his $31M guaranteed so that it was in the form of a bonus and counted against the 2012 cap. That's why he only counted as $3M verse the cap this year. They did the same thing with VJax.

That's the cap hit if he's released after 2014.
What's left of his guaranteed money is broken down into $2.3M bonuses each year. So he still has about $7M left. If we cut him today, he'd still get that and count as $7M verse our cap this year. Next year there will be about $4.6M left.In 2016 there will still be about $2.3M left of that dead money. It would be much more if Dom had not restructured his deal and gave him an extra $12M of his money upfront in 2012.
