What's left of his guaranteed money is broken down into $2.3M bonuses each year. So he still has about $7M left. If we cut him today, he'd still get that and count as $7M verse our cap this year. Next year there will be about $4.6M left.In 2016 there will still be about $2.3M left of that dead money. It would be much more if Dom had not restructured his deal and gave him an extra $12M of his money upfront in 2012.
Nicks has no more guaranteed money coming to him. His $12.5mil 2nd year was moved to a signing bonus prorated over 5 years. Thus the 2.357 cap hit every year of the contract unless he's released at which point it rolls up to that season.
Exactly. If he is released then he gets all that money.....cause it's guaranteed. What am I missing?
He already has the money. It's prorated for cap purposes.
He has hardly played anyway. He won't be missed as a result. What a huge waste of money he was...
Dom's free agent signings are gifts that just keep on giving, even after he is gone. This should come as no surprise....as FRG said, the writing has been on the wall for a bit. It's time to stop f*cking around and draft some damn interior OLmen already.

Ok gotcha.

Unfortunately I agree
Toes on the unemployment line.
if he retires, we don't, owe him anything else right?
We don't owe him any more cash, but counts $7m against the cap no matter what because Dominik gave him a 12M bonus....AFTER his injury.
Yeah, I hope the Bucs are pushing him to give his rehab and training a real go. He's only an extra 2 and change against the cap if he plays next year. We're not going to find a decent guard replacement for anywhere close to that. You got the cash Carl. You can ride off into the sunset next season. Also, overthecap shows his contract as having 4.5+ mil in dead money in 2015 as well, is that possible?
Unfortunately that wouldn't be smart. If he re-injured his foot in an OTA or mini-camp they would be on the hook for his $7M base salary.
It would be much more if Dom had not restructured his deal and gave him an extra $12M of his money upfront in 2012.
If Dominik left the contract alone he would be completely off the cap when released.
