UNC TE Eric Ebron has put on some significant weight since the season in the hopes of improving his blocking, according to Dan Pompei."One veteran front-office man said Ebron isn't as fast as he was, but he still is pretty special," Pompei writes. We question why a personnel staff member would comment on this prior to the Combine and wonder if this is part of "playing" the draft. Secondly, if true, we cannot get behind this decision by Ebron. NFL tight ends only have to be adequate and willing blockers, only rare talents display completed inline tight end skills. Ebron has been compared to Vernon Davis, however, and he fits the complete tight end mold. Does this change your thought on drafting him at #7? Discuss...
The combine will show how much it has affected his speed.
I'm not too concerned if he's putting on weight to try and be a better blocker, even if I don't think it's a good idea. If he has a sufficient work ethic, you can just tell him to slim back down. The concern is if he's putting on weight because he really likes Taco Bell, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Better than if he was getting fat. As long as he is doing this on purpose through hard work it shouldn't matter. Teams will pick they want him to play at. I have never wanted him at 7 though. That would be like taking a safety with the seventh pick ::)
It shows a lot on his part. He's doing what he can to become a complete TE.
I recently sat down and started to rate the players in the draft and Ebron comes out at no.5 overall. Heck yes I would draft him at no.7. He is very likely to be the highest rated player at that point. Times have changed. I would pick him without blinking. But would not touch Watkins with a 10 foot pole at no.7. 2 of the top 3 TD leaders last year were tight ends. 3 of the top 6. There are zero midgets in the top 10. He is the best TE since Vernon Davis, who went no.6.
I am starting to think that Atlanta may pick him just ahead of us. After the combine his buzz is going to be astronomical and they need to replace Gonzalez. Could be the perfect storm.
Who is your favorite player of all time? Mike mamula or Vernon gholston?Who is ebrons agent, michael Clayton? Once every decade a player will decide hed rather showcase his blocking skills at the combine rather than his speed.
A trade down and Ebron seems like the ideal move for us right now. I have no difference in opinion after hearing this news, as long as he is putting on weight for the right reasons.

Actually his agent might be smart .What if they are disappointed with the 40 times he's been running in training , and this is a little smokescreeen CYA ....now they have a built-in excuse for a slower time - He put on weight to showcase his blocking.
Maybe the REAL reason is he's afraid of going to the same team as Michael Sam and this is his way of looking less attractive in the shower.
