If we knew that we had someone good to replace him, then I would do it in a heartbeat, but I think that it's just one of those onerous expenses that you have to take on for a while because of poor drafting and free agency by the previous regime.
We made the trade believing he was going to put us over the top to challenge for the division, believing that Freeman was going to at least repeat what he did in 2012.It all failed, sadly it happened, but now we have to balance this roster out. To me Licht dreams about having a full slew of picks, he wants to build it HIS way. He is stuck with parts that don't fit his philosophy... Revis, 2 strong safeties, horrible depth at CB, WRNo DE worth a damn, overpaid trash like Penn, Joseph, and Zuttah that will never learn how to play as a unit. Nicks was just bad luck.He wouldn't have a signed Revis for this defense. He'd spend it on blue chip starters and depth, while keeping his picks at all cost. This team is paying for Dom/Schiano's forceful moves to save their jobs. It's as simple as that.
This is 90% drivel that has nothing to do with Darelle Revis, his value as a player, our current cap situation, or how he fits into it going forward. Seriously, your main argument here seems to be that Dom and Schiano suck so everything they did must suck and should be purged? The only argument I can see you making against Revis is he isn't a cover 2 corner? Think our HC has already shot that stupid discussion point in the ass. Or our new GM would trade anything he could of value to put his own stamp on the roster?
Revis is a bad fit for this team at this time. New regime, personell that is going to be based on being the BEST FIT...If we had a qb this would never come up, Revis on a team with no quarterback and horrible depth is a joke.

I LOVE having Revis on this team - especially the idea of him going into next season fully healthybut I kind of agree with S.A.N.T.A.N.A. here

Tell me how he is a bad fit. In what way? Who is a better fit that we could sign or draft? What would you like our cornerback group to look like in 2014? My opinion is Revis is the best fit we could possibly hope for. He is a rock we can build our defense around. A respected member of the locker room, and (since he's happy and well paid in his opinion) a great teammate. And we can totally afford him while doing anything and everything else the new regime wants to do (that I consider productive, not spending 13 mil per season on Hardy, etc).
Do it!!! Get a 1st & 3rd and 16 million in cap!!!! I'd do it in a heart beat!!
Damn. I'd swear cap space won football games....

He's a bad fit because this team is not ready to win (no depth, no qb) .Licht wants to build through the DRAFT and blue chip FA's, he's not in the mold of spending huge $ on one guy...unless the team is a serious contender. Revis can fit and be kept but it's not going to be smooth every step because we don't have enough blue chip players on the team. That's going to take time to develop in house. The guy is no spring chicken and is making 5-6mil more than any other DB.

Dude do you understand how many holes this team has??? OL, WR TE should I keep going???? He is one guy and over paid at that

Teams who are "ready to win" typically dont have $16M in available cap space.

We are under the cap...so how does that keep us from filling those holes?

I think everyone here knows that.
With Cleveland ' s 1st and 2nd....imagine adding Clowney, Watkins Yankee and Swanson...plus a guy like Borland in the middle and Foster outside. Add Allen and a CB in FA and we are set.
Why would Cleveland trade for Revis?
If he stays... will there still be kvetching about zone?

Not really. Anyone suggesting we trade him dont follow the logical steps down that road. Yea, it sounds nice if you want to wave a magic wand and trade him...but very few seem to ask themselves "To who?" You have to find a team who is both A) a good CB away from contending and B) has the ability to absorb that contract. There are maybe 3 teams who fit that mold. Then you have to think about what we would want in return. We took the gamble and rolled the dice that he would return to form, and he did. So for our gamble, the powers that be will want more than what we gave up. So now, out of those 3 teams, you have to find one willing to give up a 1st and 2nd at minimum. Ill be the first to say nothing is impossible...but most of you guys talk like this is Madden.
