Why if the pats offered the always injured Gronk for Revis to make cap room?

I wouldn't pass that trade up.

Ian Rapoport ?@RapSheet  7mWho has called the #Bucs about Darrelle Revis? Who hasn’t? Some of them: #Patriots, #Falcons, #Eagles, #Giants. But would any trade for him?

I hope the Bucs at least get something out of him.

With Talib (grrrrrrrr) and Verner et al off the market, Revis is the man for those that want an elite DB.  Expensive, but in a real D, he is a top 2 CB and they don't grow on trees.I would still keep him though.  We have plenty of cap room and can still swap Penn for Collins.

Bad contract for not quite as Bad contract?  That is probably our best bet.

I have a hard time thinking the Falcons made that call inside the division.

Aditi Kinkhabwala ?@AKinkhabwala  8mYes, the Giants explored getting Darrelle Revis. But a person involved in those discussions said ultimately, he was too expensive for team

I love these sources that reveal such high level talks in real time.  In my Seindfeld voice "Who are...these people"

Restructure contract, and let him enjoy being on a dominant team for a year and see if he wants to leave. Revis, Verner, Banks, Barron, Goldson? Come on! AND you're talking about a HC that solely focuses on pass rush. Our D would be a better Seahawks. WHY CANT THEY SEE THIS?!?!

And how do we do this when Revis' people have already said he's not going to restructure his contract?  Do you honestly think the Bucs didn't try that already?

That is true, but it has nothing to do with his "stature."  That is what many seem to miss. It ONLY has to do with the contract, which put Revis in 100% control.  Dom signed the contract . . .  nice parting gift

Would love for someone to layout a contract for Revis that would have made him both cutable and tradeable in year two of the deal.It can't be done. You really only have three options that I'm aware of. 1) Pay him a big signing bonus up front. In year two he is neither tradeable or cutable due to the accelerated bonus cap hit.2) Guarantee the money in some other form (roster bonuses, salary). Might make him more tradeable, but still not cutable.3) Large annual salary and cap hit with no guarantees. Cutable at any time with no cap hit or dead money. Tradeable from Bucs    perspective due to no cap hit or dead money. Trade value could be enhanced if willing to eat a certain amount of dead money.Looking at it in a vacuum (no value judgements on his worth), option 3 seems like the best deal to me.

There are lots of options - the language in contracts can be very flexible. You could add a clause that his money is guaranteed in year 2 as long as he's on the team or any such thing. The problem is the $16 million which was WAY out of whack with any other corner (especially one off an ACL injury). At the time, the next best corner was $10 mill I believe, and while Revis deserved top dollar it was way too out of whack. The unique situation of coming off injury should have afforded the Bucs the leverage to not pay Revis $16 million.  It's really that simple - the amount per year was way too much. You can solve that any way you want but that cap hit was wacky. If it wasn't so wacky - wouldn't need to release Revis.
