I don't understand why we would get rid of revis for any reason. We don't need any more cap space, and he is still a great CB. Getting rid of him would be a huge hit to the CB position which doesn't have much depth past banks.

We're not in the great cap shape people assume we are. About $15M under but need make upgrades and the starting QB is only making 700k. People assume McCoy's deal is going to be less than what he makes now but with a $15.8M franchise tag number his side has all the leverage. There are ways to make Revis' contract very tradeable. With 4 and 5 eligible receivers paying one DB $16M doesn't make much sense and it was a dumb trade.

QFT. The Revis deal was a desperate move by a desperate GM who was trying to cover for the head coaches failed defensive scheme. And you are correct. The only way to trade him is to restructure his deal. Give Revis a 5 year 80 million dollar deal and give him $30 million upfront. Then trade him to someone who gets Revis for 5 years 50 million. This is what makes sense.

Revis is not going anywhere or better not I should say.  With guys like Revis you have to  run different schemes against him even when he was not 100% they still schemed and he still made the pro bowl.  Lots of respect on that committee if he made the PB and not 100%.  Coach Smith will know how to use him.  He worked with Tillman up north, so all this trade speculation is silly.  Its just like Vjax on offense coaches loose sleep at night thinking of how to scheme against gamers like Revis anf Vjax!

People are forgetting the cap rollover. Bucs have rolled over cap space every year and still have good chunk to work with over the cap line. There's plenty of space. McCoy's salary will drop when he signs a new deal and there's 3-4 guys on the o line alone that may be able to be knocked off the books by moving one or two. They also have a few high priced guys that could restructure as well as revis himself. If revis contract becomes an issue, they cut him. I think its the same clowns that bash his play while he still had one of the better years for corners. That's recovering from injury, playing more zone, and a less than stellar scheme.

Every defensive coach in football would want Revis on their team.. Personally, I think McCoy, David, and Revis are the reasons why Lovie wanted to come here.

Lovie is a good coach and will adjust his schemes to fit Revis. All of this Tampa 2 crap is being blown out of proportion.

I pray you're right. Lovie HAS to have thought up a new scheme in his time off. The old ways are ineffective.

Why wait around for his play to decline and then cut him and get nothing? You could potentially get a first round pick for him right now. Use it to move up for Clowney or franchise QB.

Revis will finally be 100% after another offseason of rehabbing that knee.....if we trade him now we are retards. Every defense can use a shut-down corner . You can't play zone every down in today's NFL.

That move I would make.

I say keep him. Im sure a good coaching staff can get the most out of him. He loafed in that last game though. And was beat by mediocre receivers during the year. I def dont think he is earning his 1 million per game...

This is kind of crazy.  If we have to get rid of Revis and make our team worse to fit Lovie's scheme the he was not right for the job an we are doomed.  However, I know Lovie is a great Defensive coach who maximizes all his pieces so he will utilize Revis to his strengths.  The biggest concern with lovie is offense.  Living in Chicago, I get a lot of local Bears stuff.  Look for Peppers to be cut this offseason.  If that happens, I could see him coming here on a one year deal.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Bucs-already-have-right-to-rework-Revis-deal.html The reported hiring of Lovie Smith by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has led to immediate speculation about the future of cornerback Darrelle Revis with the team. However, there are two critical issues to recognize.First, of the $16 million that Revis is owed each season over the next five years, $3 million is tied to the offseason. According to the contract, Revis receives $1.5 million on the third day of the league year each season (that will be March 14 this year) and receives another $1.5 million for participating in the offseason workout program. In addition, the Buccaneers already have it written into the contract that they can convert any or all of the remaining $13 million in base salary to signing bonus in order to reduce Revis’ cap number and spread the cost of his contract over the remaining years. If the Bucs are going to make a move to get rid of Revis, they will have to do it early and would do it despite having the ability to easily reduce his contract by a significant amount in the short-term.Second, and perhaps just as important from a psychological standpoint, the move to trade for Revis last offseason was done with the Glazer family fully on board, multiple sources have said repeatedly. The move was not simply done at the behest of former coach Greg Schiano and General Manager Mark Dominik, who were fired Monday. In other words, even if Smith believes he doesn’t need Revis, he will have to prove to ownership why it’s a good idea to dump a player after one season when the team just traded a first-round pick and a third-round pick for the player less than a year ago. That’s to say nothing of the idea that Smith may view Revis the same way many other teams view him … as the best cornerback in football right now.
