Love Revis, but I just don't buy the hype. I don't think any player who is not a QB, is worth $16M per year. I'd like to either see him renegotiate to a contract with guaranteed money that averages $12.5M/yr....or see him traded.

Not even a QB is worth that. Both NFC QB's in the conference game make under $1.5 million a year.

Really a ridiculously stupid example because both those guys are on their rookie deals. Lavonte David is one of the best defensive players in the league but he makes under a million a year because he's on his rookie deal.Look guys. You can have fun going through your little fantasy scenarios about shipping off Revis but they aren't happening. The Bucs have one of the greatest cover corners of all time and now have a coach that knows how to use him. **CENSORED**ing deal with it.

Go figure, the Bucs finally get that elite corner when having an elite corner is worth less than ever in the NFL.  And we get to pay him a QB salary too!  Not to mention we gave up a first round pick when first round picks are worth more than ever in the NFL.  And a third rounder too!Lucky us >:(

Oh yea because the Bucs for sure were going to get a future HOFer in the prime of his career with their pick. Sure.

Since when does any one player win a game for anyone?

You don't NEED a HOF CB Einstein.  There's a reason the CB market is crashing, and its because only idiots will tie up top dollars in ONE corner when you need THREE competent corners in the modern league. Look at it this way, you are agreeing with the coaching philosophy of Greg "the Dinosaur" Schiano.  That should tell you something right there. The problem with the first round pick has nothing to do with whether the guy we got was a "HOF" player or not.  Get over that label.  It's about allocation of resources.  Last year we spent a first, a third, and $24 million for a safety and a corner. We could have spent a first on a safety and 4 million on a corner and still had almost 20 million and a third round pick to use this year.  Money and picks that could be used addressing other holes.  Leaving us flexibility to go after multiple guys and a pass rusher. That would be a better allocation of resources and added sufficient talent at the same positions. No ONE corner is worth what we gave up for Revis.  Maybe in the 80's it was, but those days are gone.

Yup. Corners win games on their own, sure. Yea there weren't other reasons for why the Bucs lost. If they had Millner over Revis they would be in the playoffs. I really think there needs to be some form of test for individuals to post on this forum. You sir, are full of shit.

I don't think you know much about football X's and O's. If you use Revis correctly, he changes the game. Also, I can't stand the damn money argument. Is it your fucking money?? The Bucs have 13 million free in space and that's not including the inevitable restructuring or releasing of Nicks, Joseph, and Koenen. Dom did a great job with that. It's not like the Bucs have 20 holes that need to be filled. Revis changes the game.

Talking about what we did is one thing, there isnt anything we can do to change that.  But to blow it all up and start over just makes it that much worse.

Lovie had a top 10 defense in Chicago for the past decade without a $16M HoF CB. The Jets replaced Revis with a rookie this year and still had the 11th ranked defense. Revis simply isn't that important. I would bet my left nut, that if we signed Tillman, replace Revis with Shields or Verner, and used the extra cap space to upgrade our pass rush....our defense would be every bit as good, maybe better.

Its hilarious that when Revis comes to Tampa all of a sudden he's not that important. Hello, this guy was someone being talked about as one of the greatest corners of all time. He erases half of the field. Your little scenario isn't happening so fucking deal with it. The Bucs don't have anything close to cap issues. In fact, as has been stated numerous times, they have plenty of room and should have even more with some restructures/releases.

And how exactly are we just replacing Revis so easily?  That's the part I am missing from the "Trade/Cut Revis" camp

Verner? Tillman? Shields? One or two of the other top 15 FA CBs?A top CB prospect like Dennard or Gilbert in the draft? Considering we would be getting a high pick in a trade, this seems very plausible. There are several options.

Yes, but what are you going to do with Revis?  Obviously not cut him, so who are you going to trade him to?  And what do you think you will realistically get in return?

Look, I get the other side of the argument. We have this big name in Tampa and even post injury he is very good. I get why people want to hold onto him.All I am saying is that if we were actually offered a deal like the one the Jags offer in the OP, it would give this regime several top draft picks and an extra $16M in cap space to start building this roster the way they want it to be built. I love Revis and I hope he restructures his deal and stays, but it's not as black & white as some people wanna make it. There might be more value in a trade than in actually having him on the roster. It's foolish to just say no way. Period.
