The Falcons were in a "win now" mode the last two years and blew up in their faces.  They have a lot of areas they need to address so they will probably not be as aggressive as before.  But since the Saints and Panthers are dominant in the division they may be tempted to make a push.  But I would say that wold be unwise IMO.

Trading a boatload of picks for Julio says otherwise. Bringing Gonzo back for 1 more, says otherwise.

Right, I think ATL say a win now moments but with the aging off of Gonzo, Abraham, Turner among others they know they are going to have work to do. They have Ryan so I think they think they have the most important piece and are a playoff level team but to be a Super Bowl team they need more than one guy.

They hosted the 2012 NFC Championship game, how is that blowing up in their faces?

Because they lost, went 4-12 the next year, and now are going to potentially squander their QB's peak skill years.

The Falcons gambled on the super-star structure, and injuries bit them. A team with a lot of holes, but a very good QB isn't a bad start. They are a team that really needs to draft better in the trenches.

So they go 40-24 the last 4 years and they're the joke, but we go 25-39 and we're not the bigger joke. We're doing it right and they're not?

1. What do the Bucs have to do with this? 2. The Bucs have made more than their share of win-now moves trading for Kellen Winslow and Darrelle Revis, signing super expensive 28+ year old free agents, drafting a running back in the 1st round, and moving up for multiple other players. 3. What do you think the Falcons record will be in 2014?

A - what FRG said (not sure what this has to do with the Bucs)B - I didn't say they were a joke. I can understand why they made the gamble and it worked very well for awhile. But now they have a longer climb back up because of it. I also think last year exposed Ryan as a QB who maybe needs a bit more help than I would have guessed he needed even a few years ago. He's still very good, but doesn't appear to be a guy who is going to make everybody around him much better, a la Rodgers, Brees, Manning.  Maybe they've always known that and as a result felt they had to have Jones. He needs weapons and right now he's really just got just one who scares anybody. They'll be the first to raise their hand that their OL stinks. They don't have very many good players on D and they were the last in the NFL in adjusted sack rate. They do have a reasonable amount of $ to spend.

The bottom line is the Falcons team peaked when Matt Ryan was between 25-27. They were horrible when he was 28 and probably won't be very good when he's 29. They put a bunch of resources into being as good as possible when their QB mostly wasn't ready to lead them and only won one playoff game. Now that their QB is arguably as developed as he is ever going to be, the rest of the team stinks and it's going to take some work to build back up. They're going to squander Ryan's best years.

Well, what are you basing that on? What have they done this offseason, that says they are no longer in "win now" mode.

Honestly, every team is in "win now" mode. What mode every team is not in, is the mode where they make a move because they feel they are a player or two away from  a championship. Hard to believe that the Falcons will be making any "put us over the top" moves any time soon. They are a mess in the trenches.
