According to FBO (Football Outsiders), the Bucs ran up the middle (guard/center) 70% of the time. Running up the middle, FBO gave the Bucs a 19th overall ranking with a adjusted line yard production of 4.28 yards.
2019 interior: LG Marpet - C Jensen - RG Cappa
Each year the league productions differ as rankings are done with that year alone, meaning rankings are relative to that year's production alone.
FBO run block rank up the middle
2015: 8th overall at 51% of the total runs
2016: 13th overall at 64% of the total runs
2017: 16th overall at 53% of the total runs
2018: 25th overall at 64.5% of the total runs
2019: 19th overall at 70% of the total runs
That's a very interesting set. So with a highly touted PFF 2019 score for C Jensen and a vastly improved RG Cappa, the run game up the gut was still mediocre? And we're happy with that set up? How can Jensen be praised when our run game remained mediocre, and that's with an improved RG.
Is Jensen really playing well? Is Cappa an actual solution? Yet, on these boards the commotion is all about RT Dotson and going away from him. That interior needs immediate help.
Please note that C Jensen took became the starting center in 2018. We were actually better off without Jensen at center up the gut running. Our best year running up the gut was when we had LG Mankins and RG Marpet as our bookend guards. We haven't had a competent guard pairing since.
