I am warming up to the idea of Watkins at #7. But it all depends how free agency goes, and who is picked 1 thru 6. There may be a player sitting there at #7, that no one expected.
like?
Clowney, Bridgewater, Mathews.
there is no way in hell Clowney or Teddy is there at 7. Damn those meaningless wins!!
Watkins has been in Tampa working out

Doesn't the dude live in florida?
Teddy, Bortles, Carr, Garrapolo, JFF. These guys seem to be the "hot prospects" (or "cute prospects" for some people) this draft. If we are interested in one of them and he falls to us at 7, we will probably have to pick him there. People keep scheming to grab someone in the second, but that is really a gamble, one which I don't think you can take. There are 4 QB needy teams that will go twice before our second. And in the first after us you have MIN, TEN, ARI, CLE again, all pretty likely to be interested in QBs. You will also have teams looking to the future like SD, and DEN that might find this class tempting to dip into early. Not to mention possible surprise candidates like NYJ, CIN and maybe even BUF.
Yup cara, if they're going to draft a qb, it has to be early.Would love for manziel to drop to seven and lovie and tedford select him. I keep hoping his big mouth and smaller stature will drop him enough we can land him.Either way, if we can draft manziel, bortles, or teddy, we're heading for improvement.Unless watkins lights it up in the combine, he surely is a player that will be there at 7. In fact, I think you could move back a few spots and still land him.
What is the earliest a slot WR has ever been drafted? Tavon Austin rode the hype to being selected no.8. He finished the year injured. 5'8" 175 lbs. He isn't awful, he had many great plays last year but those are the kinds of risks you can use a mid to late round pick on. Is Watkins really elite with his speed? The combine can't come quickly enough. Speed is everything for him because of his size.

Why do you think he's only a slot receiver? Is Roddy White a slot WR? Torrey Smith? Michael Crabtree? They're all about the same size.
Watkins is 6'1 205 and you are comparing his size to Austin ??Please shut up Goldson . Read more post less.

Dolorous posts the truth as usual. Watkins has no size concerns, quit making them up.

I would be seriously, seriously unhappy if we drafted Garrapolo at #7.
Yeah Watkins definitely isn't just a slot receiver. That's why I like both him and Allen Robinson. They both work well in screens and in the slot, but can take over outside when VJax wears down or if TDMike gets into trouble/hurt. I was hoping for Allen Robinson in the 2nd, but I doubt he'll last that long. I'd love DLINE or OLINE in the 1st, but I'd also love Watkins if we drafted him. We've never had an explosive player like him at receiver.. (sarcasm alert) except maybe Jaquez Green.
Honestly, I'm not really sure who i'd be excited about at #7. I think my reaction will be more like "oh" than "yay" regardless of what we do there. We need a pass rusher but I have a hard time feeling like we should take one as our defense wasn't the issue for most of the year.We need a Guard/Center but that's not a sexy or fun pick at all.We need a slot receiver but I don't find the value in a slot guy at #7 when they are truly going to be our 3rd receiver. No QB worth taking will drop to us at 7.TE is a need but that is a huge reach to take Ebron at 7Trading back is probably our best bet but so anti-climatic it makes me want to nap.Just ho-hum about the whole thing really.
Unless someone drops unexpectedly, this is how I'm looking at it as well. There's still time for guys stock to rise and fall but right now I don't see anyone going at 7 that I get super excited about.

None of those guys lined up primarily in the slot in college. Watkins did. He is a slot WR.The Tavon Austin reference was because he is the earliest that a slot WR has ever gone I believe.

wrong again. Watkins can line up anywhere and run any route on the route tree. If you watched Clemson games, you'd know. Screens, posts, curls, fades. You name it, he can do it. And take it to the house after.
