Sammy Watkins6'1" 211 pounds.9 5/8" hands 32" arms.4.43 40.34" vertical.Measurables: Sammy Watkins is considered short at 6' 1" in terms of new age NFL WRs. That is the first strike against him. His pathetic vertical is strike no.2. When you consider that the other top end talent in this draft are the likes of Mike Evans, Jordan Matthews, and Kelvin Benjamin, it's easy to see that Watkins doesn't measure up. Evans: 6'5" 35 1/8" arms and a 37" vertical. 4" taller, 3" better vertical, and 3 1/8" longer arms. Evans has a huge catching radii, which means that he will be able to catch more footballs that Watkins will simply watch sail over his head.Benjamin: 6'5" 34 7/8" arms and a 32.5" vertical. 4" taller, 1 1/2" less vert and 2 7/8" longer arms. Benjamin, despite a poor vertical still has a much larger catching radii.Matthews: 6'3" 33 1/4" arms and a 35.5" vertical. 2" taller, 1.5" more vert and 1 1/4" longer arms. Again, Matthews has a much larger catching radii, resulting in more balls he will be able to catch compared to Watkins. So, there you have the measurables. Watkins falls woefully short of all of the other top prospects in the measurables. Now lets talk about character.Watkins served a two game suspension in 2012 due to an off season drug arrest. He cleaned himself up, repented and has not been in trouble since. But how did he do it? How did he get his life in order? The answer is that his mother moved to Clemson and kept her eyes on him and kept him out of trouble. She knows a gravy train when she sees one. But wait? What happens when you draft the kid and mommy isn't around to wipe his ass for him? His college career was on a Mike Williams trajectory before mommy stepped in and saved the day. So, what happens when he gets a huge paycheck? Is he really going to be able to keep himself along the right path without his mommy?  Is he going to be Mike Williams part two? I'm going to sum this up by saying that Sammy Watkins was a great college football player. His highlight tape is fantastic. If I were drafting him to play college ball, he would be a great pick. But that isn't the case. We are talking about drafting this kid with the no.7 overall pick. He is not going to be the fastest guy on the field anymore. 240 pound LBs will be covering him who run a very similar 10 yard split. He isn't going to be able to outrun these guys anymore. So, take that away and what are you left with? A small WR who isn't faster than everyone anymore and jumps like a white kid.Watkins has way too many question marks for my liking. I like him, but not at no.7. No way.

Sure his measurables are not elite maybe you do have a point  but calling 6'1" short and a 34" vertical "pathetic" and white kidish is pretty weak.

The kid is from Ft Myers, so his mom will be right down the road. Problem solved. Not that it matters, he'll be drafted long before 7.

College corners couldn't cover him yet an NFL linebacker will? Okay, chief. The combine is a waste of time unless someone absolutely implodes and based on Watkins' highlight tapes, I'd say he's good enough on the jump ball. Additionally, with MW19 (maybE) and VJAX, it's not like a lot of 50-50 balls would be going his way.

The funny thing is Mike Williams, one of those WRs for us thats known for winning jump balls has the same height as Watkins, same arm length and his vertical was 33.5".

Terrible analysis. You might as well say he scratches his nose too much, no elite WR scratches his nose, therefore he won't be elite. Really? The guy is 6'1, still taller than most corners and he's fast.

This guy isn't going to contest for jump balls, but he is a good definition of "speed in space."You give this guy several looks per game and hope he takes it to the house. That's his game.

34" vertical for a WR who is supposed to be a tremendous athlete is what is weak.Just wondering? He isnt going to win with speed in the NFL. How is he going to win? If you take away that advantage, which the NFL surely will then how does he win?

i wouldnt say red flags, but if he diidnt have a name on his jersey at the combine i think the analysts would be doggin' him.  i think he has shown in college that hes gonna be a pretty good player.  i would love to have him, but i dont see the value in a WR that high.

Another thread title could have been, "I dont like this guy so Im going to make up a weak argument and call them red flags".
