As much as we’d all like to believe that a person’s decision to come out as gay is a non-issue in 2014, it is. For some, it’s a very big issue.Michael Sam already has found that out, based on his own father’s reaction to the news that Sam is gay. Michael Sam Sr. tells the New York Times that he learned of his son’s sexual orientation last Tuesday, and that Sam Sr. has been struggling with the revelation. The news came via a three-word text message — “Dad, I’m gay” — received while Sam Sr. was eating at Denny’s.“I couldn’t eat no more, so I went to Applebee’s to have drinks,” Sam Sr. said. “I don’t want my grand kids raised in that kind of environment.”Sam Sr. explained that he’s “old school . . . a man-and-a-woman type of guy.” To illustrate the point, Sam Sr. said he took one of his older sons to Mexico so that he could lose his virginity. As the icing on the cake, Sam Sr. said that Hall of Famer Deacon Jones “is turning over in his grave” at the prospect of an openly gay player in the NFL.And that’s coming from the father of the NFL’s first openly gay player. We can predict and we can hope and we can wish that there won’t be problems for Michael Sam, but he’s already got a problem in his immediate family. There surely will be strangers who feel the same way — and who express those views.

Sounds fakeEdit: wow pretty crazy stuff. But that's Texas for ya. Hope his family comes around gives him the support he needs as he does this.
Here's the original story, if you'd like to read it: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/12/sports/football/for-nfl-prospect-michael-sam-upbringing-was-bigger-challenge-than-coming-out-as-gay.html?hp&_r=1
Damn!!
Fcked up. He is a failure as a parent and as a human being. Don't know what type of relationship they had before, probably not good considering he texted it to him. But it will be difficult to ever fully repair that. Had a gay friend who's dad said having a gay son was one of two things he didn't want to have happen to him in his life, and despite their efforts to reconcile it will never fully be the same. I am completely accepting of gay people, and even I wouldn't necessarily want my son or daughter to be gay just because of the extra trouble it could cause you, but Jesus Christ people support your kids. What else do you really have in this world other than them.
It's different strokes for different folks but if that was my kid, as long as he's not hurting himself or hurting other people I wouldn't care who he's with. If he's happy with who he is then that's fine with me.
I'm old school too, but mexican hookers...?C'mon man.
His POOR PARENTS! I feel so bad for them. Can you imagine the HELL they are going thru knowing that their son that they use to love is gay??Horrible, horrible time in their lives....... :'(

This crap from him is the reason I have him on ignore.
I can understand how, as a father, it could be tough to understand. Especially when it's out of the clear blue like that.

Understand why it would be tough yes, but to say it at all, much less to a public out is a bit much wouldn't you say?
I'm glad the father said what he did. He could have been like some of the frauds on this site who only pretend to be in favor of this lifestyle, but he chose to be honest. Tolerance is a one way street when it comes to the homosexual lifestyle, if you're not in favor of it there are all kinds of words politicians and their mindless followers have for you. Nice to see his dad has a spine. It's a wonder some of you can even walk.

I was going to say "too much to take in," but I didn't want to give anyone any ideas.Butt yeah, on nation tv.. that's not a cool way to find out.
