Shannon Sharpe buries quarterbacks without rings in front of Dan MarinoFox Sports by Joe Lucia on 12 January 2014. Dan Marino is one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all-time. The one knock on him is one that is quite well-known - that he doesn't have a Super Bowl ring.Heading into Sunday night's Broncos-Chargers game, the discussion on The NFL Today turned to whether or not championships validate greatness. Shannon Sharpe took the position that you can't be considered one of the best ever without a ring...leading to Marino glumly admitting that's the one thing in his career he didn't have.Of course, Sharpe immediately backpedaled and said that there are plenty of quarterbacks with rings that aren't as good as Marino. So to summarize - you can't be one of the greatest quarterbacks ever if you don't have a ring, but just because you have a ring doesn't mean you're one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. Got all that? It's like Sharpe was putting together some sort of twisted Venn diagram while burying his own colleague. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dysIbhTrnKs
People watch cbs?
Sharpe isn't the brightest guy, but in a way he'a still right.Without a ring, you can only say he's talented, not..he's a champion.Unfortunately, it's part of it.
If you told me that I can have any QB in their prime for my team, I'd have a hard time finding 3 guys that I'd take over Marino. I can certainly see Elway, but I don't really see any QB other than him better than Marino.

lol i guess you never saw Dan Marino play in his prime?
Can't say luck would be "better" than marino. And no one mentioned aikman. He's also another qb that is "better" than marino simply because he won it all.If I had to make a list of qb's who were better than marino..YoungAikmanMontanaBreesBradyManning(s)ElwayWarnerFavreGriese (bob)BradshawRodgersRoethlisburger...and even maybe jim kelly.

No, apparently he didn't. Obviously neither did Benchwarmer. The funny thing is though, all this talk in today's NFL game about passing records being broken (TD's, yards, most consecutive games with TD's and alike)... the one commonality is that these guys are breaking Dan Marino's records.
What are you tb, a selective reading expert?I saw marino play. As for how good he was, that's fine, but logically I can't call him better than those guys I mentioned. The sample size isn't good enough for him at the championship level. Without a super bowl win, he is reduced to being a statistical monster, rather than a champion. It is what it is.I'll say this much for dan. He was better than any buccaneer qb, and if I had to make a list of best to worst, he would be directly under the names I already mentioned (mutiple sb winners).
To think one man is a better player based largely on the fact that he does or doesn't have a ring is dumb. QBs matter more than any other player today but they aren't the only thing that matters and certainly 20 years ago that same QBs role mattered less. More sweeping generalizations from this board, guess it's just to hard to look at people case by case. #WINNING

Does this list come with the rule changes or not?...OBD

Well, apparently you didn't know much about the NFL then. Back in Marino's day (83-99), the NFL was very defensive and run heavy. The Dolphins, only 3 times had a defense that even ranked in the top half of the NFL... once he went to the Super Bowl. Also, being a run heavy league, the Dolphins never had any good RB's. Here is the list of their top RB's in that era... Andra Franklin, Woody Bennett, Tony Nathan, Lorenzo Hampton (2), Tony Stradford, Sammie Smith (2), Mark Higgs (3), Bernie Parmalie (2), & Karim Abdul-Jabbar (3). Over that time frame, those RB's accounted for a total of 1 season with 1,000 yards. If someone were to argue John Elway, that's fine, I think they're on equal footing. After that though, any other QB you mention will have been surrounded by Hall-of-Famers. Marino never was.

I disagree...I watch Marino from his first snap to his last. He was at the time one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.. The only thing that held him back with the Running game and as a Former dolphin fan I knew with his Coach that wasn't going to change...Much love to Don Shula and Dan Marino for what they did in the sport and during those Rules where they didn't have tutu's put on the WR's...OBD
I've seen Marino play. Dolphins were the first pro team in Florida. I was a fan pre-1976. Lost all interest when Shula stopped coaching.Marino had the benefit of a HOF coach and a great supporting roster.I'd add Warren Moon to my list as well.

I wouldn't. Give me Brady, Young, Brees, and Rodgers.....all champions!!
