Should Lovie Smith Do This to Gerald McCoy?? Nov 12, 2015
Twice in the last three games, Gerald McCoy has been flagged for a penalty late in the game on key drives. For those of you who want a more vocal coach, or a more vocal Lovie Smith... for those of you who want to place ALL the blame of our defensive meltdowns on Lovie Smith, do you think this is something Lovie Smith should do in order to light a fire under McCoy??Where is McCoy in this next picture? Why isn't our team captain and leader on defense talking to Akeem Spence? Why isn't our highest paid player leading in this picture or even on the field?
I'll tell you why. It's because Gerald McCoy is NOT a leader. He is definitely NOT what many like to call "an alpha dog" either (which imo, isn't required to be a leader). He doesn't deserve to be the highest paid player on the team. What he says shouldn't matter as much as what Winston says. Or Mankins, who handed the game ball to Kwon a couple weeks ago.But yet McCoy DID SAY something this week. Albeit, after the game was over. I was beginning to think I was wrong. So many of you had me convinced. But alas, Gerald McCoy throws me a bone. LOL!But is it going to be enough? Will Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David right the ship? Will they begin to play more to their pay-grade? Will they start acting like the leaders their jerseys say they are? Talk is cheap, Mr McCoy... you gonna start showing it on the field?is the self-confession from McCoy still not enough? Is it enough for McCoy to be aware and confess that he is a monumental part of our defensive woes? Does Lovie Smith need to get in his face like he did with Spence the next time McCoy jumps offsides in the 4th quarter? Does Lovie Smith need to show more emotion at our defensive captains?
