Bucs question: A run at Greg Hardy? February, 8, 2014 By Pat Yasinskas | ESPN.com Hardy_Zps82284Cf6.Jpg Saturday’s mailbag question of the day comes from Frank in Dalton, Ga. He asks if I think the Bucs will make a run at Carolina’s Greg Hardy. The need at defensive end is significant and Hardy’s a rare talent who is in his prime. Adding someone like him could be all it takes to make Tampa Bay’s defense dominant. But I think it’s a long shot that you’ll see Hardy land in Tampa Bay. First off, I think the Panthers will do their best to try to keep him. Second, this isn’t like last year when the Bucs had a ton of salary-cap room and went out and got Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson. The Bucs are in decent cap shape (right now, they’re about $10 million under the projected cap), but that’s not nearly the type of cap space they had last year. Hardy would eat up virtually all the cap space and the Bucs have other important needs that need to be addressed. I do think the Bucs will add a defensive end in free agency or the draft, but I don’t see Hardy ending up with them.

We really should because of the massive need we have at that position but on the other hand we shouldn't because we really can't afford to be giving out yet another massive contract if we want a good overall team.IF we were "one player away from the Super Bowl" and loading up I'd say go for it but we're about 10 players away from being a solid, consistent wild card contender.

I think we'll pick up a cheaper, older veteran and add another pass rusher in the draft. If Lovie wants Mack to be his guy, then he obviously has plans for him. If that's the case, I wouldn't be upset at all. Maybe we trade back and pick up Ealy and a pick or two.

Paraphrasing here,  but when he was recently asked what the panthers needed to do in order to be better next year,  he said that they needed to pay him a crap load of money. That would make them better.  Sounds like fat cat waiting to happen.  Let's go the value route.  He doesn't sound like value.

I want Justin Tuck ....he'll be cheaper and he's more versatile. He can play undertackle if McCoy gets hurt.Tucksack1.Gif

Tuck or Abraham would be smarter, but I wouldn't be opposed.

Averages 6 sacks a year in non-contract years, told the Panthers to give him a "crapload of money". I've seen this movie before.

In his world, every player just plays hard until they can get paid and then shut it down. Thus you should never pay players.

Too many examples of guys just playing to get paid then shutting it down. If you sign him and that's the case you're screwed. Too much money involved and too many other options to take the chance.

That isn't the scary part, it's the pay me type comments.Be a professional, work your butt off, get that contract. When you start throwing out "crapload of money" type comments it opens up a can of worms.

Quick answer...yes.However, I think the only Hardy the Bucs will employ next year will be Coach Nickerson.

Yeah, me too. Dude ended up signing with another team before forcing a strip-sack-fumble in the playoffs and is now a Superbowl champion..... And if you don't know who I'm talking about I feel bad for you.
