Former Bucs LBs coach and Bears head coach Lovie Smith is believed to be the leading candidate to replace Greg Schiano in Tampa Bay. Former Bucs linebacker Jeff Gooch speaks highly of Smith and believes Smith's consistency, work ethic and defensive mind would be embraced by Tampa Bay fans. https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=9538:&Itemid=15
kind of verifies what DTG was suggesting. things have been in the works. Smith is going to be the guy.
Must get a QB. Not a deja vu with what happened in Chicago.
I'm willing to make a guarantee that Lovie Smith WILL be the next coach of the Bucs. Why? Here's my thoughts:First, when the Glazers hired Morris, what they had in mind was not only his comparison to Mike Tomlin, but also to the highly respected Lovie Smith. I've no doubt that if Smith was available then, he would be our coach now.Second, Smith is a 'safe' hire. He has a winning record, he has been to the super bowl. He has ties to the Bucs and to Tony Dungy. Everyone knows that the Glazers have to get a coach that will be here for more than 3 years and Lovie Smith will do that.Third, the defense is closer than the offense and Smith is a defensive coach. As fans, we might not want to hear this, but when you have to face Brees, Newton and Ryan and you don't have a bona fide franchise quarterback yourself, you're best bet is to have a defense that can shut down the other teams quarterbacks.Fourth, he's not a coach that's going to embarrass you in the media, not that Schiano did that - but Lovie understands the media better than Schiano did and the media, especially the Tampa media will get along very well with Smith. Finally, he's a name that the casual fan knows, he'll garner instant credibility and help restore some needed enthusiasm in the Tampa area, especially if he can bring a few other 'name' coaches with him. The only way that Lovie Smith is NOT our next head coach is if he turns us down for another offer. As far as GM, goes there are a lot of other former Tampa connected names still available. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Smith comes with his own hand picked GM (think Jerry Angelo). JMO.

That doesn't even make sense. 3 of the 4 teams are offensive and somehow we need to be defensive? How does that work exactly? They aren't playing to shutdown each other yet we should? You get an offense and join the club!

How does that NOT make sense? Our offense was clearly far behind everyone else's, not only in the South but in the entire NFL. There is not going to be a quick fix for the offense next year and even if you draft a quarterback in round 1 next year, he's unlikely to be very productive in the first year. However, with some good coaching and a couple of pieces the defense could be very, very good. Keeping the other teams in our division under 20 points in a game gives you a chance.Defense is clearly closer to an elite unit, finish it first THEN fix the offense. At least that make the most sense to me at this point.
if they select him...hope to high heaven he has figured out how to score with the offense by now
SR: Shelton is still with the team, right?
Id be doing backflips if we do bring in Lovie. Despite his downfalls, hes a freat HC, and with the right guy running the O, we would be back in contention in no time.

we have a defense, which Lovie can improve, and our offense was statistically decent last year with much the same players. Drew Brees, Cam Newtons and Matt Ryans don't grow on trees. We need a very good defense and at least a competent offense to beat those teams
