Hello everyone. I stopped watching the Rams game about 3 quarters in, and here are some thoughts that I've had regarding the teams performance thus far this year ( especially more recently). I'd really like to get some more of the boards "football minds" to better consider some of my observations.
1. We are extremely inconsistent.
-Offensively- The last few games, our down and distance has been poor. We seem to have many first and second down plays that yield little to no yardage, leaving us in 3rd and long situations. We definately need to do better on 1st and second downs.
-Defensively: In the early game, our pass defense is extremely porous, especially vs short to intermediate throws. The last few games in particular, opposing QB's start the game on nearly perfect completion percentage while easily moving the chains. Its only when we have a lead that we "unleash" our defense. We should play like we have a lead from the getgo. This is really my main concern. If I was to develop a game plan against us, I would exploit this to nickle and dime us up and down the field while controlling possession.
2. Where is Scotty/Antonio Bryant
-I wonder if the AB acquisition is having an influence, or unintended consequence, on the usage of our other players. Prior to AB, Scotty had a "role" on the team, he was our deep threat and was quite effective in that role. It seems as though we have been featuring AB; however, it seems that Scotty's presence seemed to give our offense certain dimension that really rounded out our offense. I'm not sold that the addition of AB helped us in the overall picture.
3. Playmakers: As above. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. These are the guys (especially Godwin IMHO ((yes possibly some fanboyism))) that need to be targeted more frequently. There is an obvious disconnect between Brady and Evans. I like Gronk and AB as much as the next guy, but these two WR's have to be more involved in the game planning and execution.
4. Risk it vs no biscuit: I've heard rumblings about Brady and Arians being at odds in the media. They probably get along well enough, but do their fundamental philosophies really "mesh." Seeing the play, it seems that they approach the game differently, it really feels like asking Brady to go from "deep to short" is contrary to his nature.
5. Potential: You know, when we are good...we are really really good. Steps I would take to improve the product on the field.
1. We have to stop getting killed on the short-medium passes.
2. Get Godwin the ball at least 10 times per game.
3. Play to Brady's strengths.
PS. Too many beers- stream of thought writing- poor grammar (i know), incomplete/just the tip hahaha
