Back when the owners were told that the salary cap would climb from $123 million in 2013 to $126.3 million in 2014, a source with knowledge of the cap calculation said it will be higher. Now that reports have put the salary cap as high as $132 million for 2014, the same source has said, once again, it will be higher.Per the source, the cap could be a “few million” higher than $132 million.  If this means $3 million more than reported, the cap could be as high as $135 million.  That would amount to an 9.75 percent increase over last year, the biggest spike by far since the 2011 labor deal was negotiated. It’s unknown whether the increase in the cap, which is based on revenues but inevitably is negotiated by the NFL and the NFLPA, will result from efforts to borrow against future cap increases.  In past years, the quid pro quo for an increase in the cap has included an agreement by the NFLPA to permit cap penalties to be imposed on the Cowboys and Redskins for treating the uncapped year of 2010 too literally.A cynic may wonder whether the spike in the cap for 2014 is aimed at helping NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith fend off a 2015 challenge from Sean Gilbert or, possibly, Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks.Regardless, the cap could be increasing by similar amounts in the future.  Per the source, the 2014 bump is expected to become the trend in future years.

Bucs  need 30+ million to rebuild this roster that has no talent. They can do this all in one year with a couple more pics and by signing every available fa. The bucs will also keep all other over priced guys and not cut them to save money. They want to pay every mediocre player in the nfl a top 5 contract and they can't do that with revis.Damn, this stuff should be common sense. Don't you play madden?

How many of the guys who we assumed would be available will now be resigned by their teams before free agency opens?  For a team like the Bucs with some cap room and obvious cuts to open up more this is bad news imo.  *I shouldn't say "bad".  I like players being paid.  So this is good in that regard, just a negative for the Buccaneers in the 2014 free agent market.

This is bad. Lots of money for a lot of mediocre players that will be overpaid.

Yeah, tight caps are what gave the market so many 1 year "bargain" contracts the last couple seasons.  Bet we see more multi year deals in 2014 if there really is a 135+ mil cap.

Bucs are at 17 or so million with no roll over and the cap is looking to go up 7-9 million. That's 24-26 million. Bucs have at the very least a few million in rollover that can and will likely be used. That's roughly 30 mil in cap space before a single cut, restructure, or trade. Please tell me again how revis needs to be cut to save $$$

We could trade Revis, but finding a suiter that will want to take his 16 mil a year contract could be a problem.
