Joe Gilbert has done a decent job of coaching up players given enough time but the in-season Oline personnel decisions have not gone well.
Last year, there was a stubbornness of staying with Goedeke even after it was clear that he wasn't ready. This year it seems a similar stubbornness is rearing its ugly head with all 3 interior line positions. How bad will it need to get before considering inserting Nick Leverette or Aaron Stinnie into the starting lineup? At this point we are already the worst rushing team in the league...and if there is no plan to bring in an RB or OL via trade in the two weeks, the only chance for improving the running game has to come from the existing roster.
Based on the results we are seeing...if neither Leverette or Stinnie is good enough to crack the starting lineup, what does that say about the overall roster construction?
Mauch has been good in pass pro... I thought he was supposed to be a run mauler based on the draft but idk.
The case to make the switch at LG seems obvious.
The regression of Hainsey just sucks.
Cody Mauch hasn't been good as the coaches hyped him up to be. He isn't a liability by any means but he's hardly the road grader we expected. The biggest issue is Feiler at LG and Hainsey at C.
Leverett played well last year so naturally Licht used void years to sign a journeyman and hand him the starting guard spot. Get Leverett and Stinnie in there, this run game is embarrassing.
Travesty that stinnie or Leverett don't have playing time instead we have 2 new guys
Yeah I say get them both in there at this point and let Mauch go through learning pains.
Stinnie had some really good reps and really bad reps. I'd have to think he was better overall than Feiler.
Leverette had a really nice run off the bench to join a scuffle
Hainsey seemed better but idk.
For sure we need to stick with Stinne
honestly surprised me when we signed Feiler in the first place. Thought Stinnie did admirable at RG when Cappa went down and Leverett showed some chops at LG when we had him step in. Granted they were small sample sizes but good glimpses from them in a position where you have to bring your A game every snap.
