Many members of this board, including myself, are open to the idea of selecting Jadeveon Clowney in the 2014 NFL Draft to save the abysmal pass rush situation that this team has faced the past several seasons. However, 2 speeding tickets in three weeks and then taking a pic with cops the day after definitely shows a severe lack of maturity! Clowney has also caught alot of heat for being suspected of taking plays off, faking injuries, etc. He's got all the talent and physical ability in the world to be a great player, but as cliche as it sounds "Football is 10% physical and 90% mental". Assuming, Coach Schiano is back next season, and us knowing what he thinks is a "buccaneer man", does Clowney fit? Is Coach Schiano the right guy to discipline him and develop him into defensive monster that he has the potential to be?... Schiano did say the personnel for a 4 man rush just isn't quite there yet. This is a high risk/high reward prospect. Thoughts?
I'm going to preface this by saying there's almost no shot the Bucs have an opportunity to draft Clowney. I can't see him falling out of the top 3 or 4, and the Bucs won't be there. That being said, give him all the heat you want for taking off plays or whatever, but c'mon, speeding tickets? It's not like the kid is getting drunk in public underage or something. He's speeding. Who hasn't been caught by speed traps? It's not a DUI, it's not stealing a laptop from a dorm. He drives fast and has gotten unlucky lately. No different from most drivers on the road.
Whoa slow down there Mel Kiper, No shot?...Draft Day is a long way to go. Scenarios and situations always change every year. Let us not forget how Bowers was considered the #1 overall pick and fell right into our hands in the 2nd round. How'd that turn out for us? I understand they're speeding tickets and it's very minor, but the problem is immaturity. 110mph is not bad luck. That's being a moron....

110 MPH in a 70 MPH zone? And then "tweeting" pictures of him and the officers? Unlucky isn't a fair word to use.I don't know what kind of player he is going to be but off the field he seems like a bonehead.
I missed the 110 in a 70, just saw his most recent, the 80 in a 55. Still though, not gonna get on him for speeding, for obvious reasons, or even the tweeting thing, because I could go through every single draft prospect, and if they have twitter, they've tweeted something unbelievably dumb. If that creates a knucklehead, then there are no non-knuckleheads in the draft this year.
I'll agree that there are many Twitter knuckleheads out there. I'm so glad that I didn't grow up in this generation. That said, the way he handled this situation knowing that it "could" impact his draft stock gives me cause for concern. The money isn't even in his account and he is already acting the fool. I'm not proposing that the Bucs should draft the Valedictorian from Harvard but when there's smoke there's usually fire. Tampa Bay can't afford to swing and miss especially with such a high pick coming their way.
"Officer, it wasn't my big stupid foot that had the pedal mashed to the floor, it was bad luck."
"Officer, it wasn't my big stupid foot that had the pedal mashed to the floor, it was bad luck."
Actually it was Greg Schiano and George Bush that did it.
I want nothing to do with this kid... maybe that changes as the draft process unfolds and we learn more about him. Not really concerned about the speeding; he's not the only high profile person who does it. What I am concerned about is how he played, handled the hype/expectations, and appears entitled beyond belief. No thanks. Sign Allen, let Ghloston develop, draft another end, whatever. Just don't burn a top 5/10 pick on a guy that seems more Haynesworth than anything else.
