Facing a Truly Elite Defensive Tackle in Aaron DonaldJustin PawlowskiDec 16, 2015Comm_Zpsuh9Dww5Y.pnglinkOn Thursday night, the Bucs have the task of slowing down a truly elite defensive tackle. The Rams might not be a very good team, but the Bucs face a tall task...slowing down Aaron Donald. In not even two NFL seasons, the Rams defensive tackle has already totaled 20 sacks and is getting mentions for defensive player of the year. Donald has been the most dominant player from last year's draft, a draft that consisted of Khalil Mack, Odell Beckham, and yes, Mike Evans."We have an advanced scout from our scouting department that scouts teams a couple weeks in advance and he told me [Donald] was on the same level as J.J. Watt," Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said. "I thought to myself, ‘Wow, that’s hard to believe.’ Then it came my time to watch the tape and I said, ‘Oh wow, he’s on the same level as J.J. Watt.’ This guy is having a fantastic year. [He is] definitely a game-wrecker for this game.”Credit to Pewter Report's Scott Reynolds, who wanted the Bucs to take Donald with the 7th pick in last year's draft. The Bucs may have been desperate for offensive help, but Reynolds continually pushed for the Bucs to draft Donald because of how dominant he could become. Most Bucs fans disagreed with Reynolds because of the fact that the Bucs already had an "elite" defensive tackle in Gerald McCoy, and McCoy wasn't changing positions. He said so himself.Comm1_Zps76465Z7Q.pngThat a way to be a team player! While McCoy is only 4.5 sacks behind Donald's pace the past 2 seasons, he is nowhere near the consistent disruptive force Donald is. Whether the excuses have been injuries or double teams, Team McCoy has been in constant spin control for the 2nd quarter dominator any time the chosen one is questioned.Unfortunately for McCoy, this past Sunday was his worst performance as a professional.Dealing with a hurt shoulder or a broken hand or whatever other excuse other defensive linemen around the league aren't using, McCoy was dominated on Sunday against the Saints with one of their guards being a backup. Oh, and double teams? Not so much.Check out this disappearing act. Not sure if Gerald McCoy had the gap near the opposite sideline...Comm2_Zpsj7Aou2Fp.pngHere is the play right before defensive line coach Joe Cullen just berated McCoy on the sideline...and let's stop calling it an "argument" or "disagreement." McCoy got a tongue-lashing, and rightfully so.Comm3_Zpsdpxdpbe5.Png"It was a disagreement, it got heated, but we apologized to each other right after," McCoy said. "I talked to him after the game, I called him again after the game, we talked again yesterday. Those things happen. It’s going to be made a bigger deal than it was. You laugh it off. I came into meetings yesterday and said, ‘Are we still friends?’"As for Aaron Donald, slowing him down falls on the interior of the Bucs offensive line, but also on Jameis Winston. This game could be as mental of a chess game for Jameis Winston as any game this season. However, the mental part will come pre-snap and mostly with blocking schemes for the Bucs rookie quarterback. After that, Winston must get rid of the ball on time because he'll be on his back if he doesn't.link
