Do we accept the excuses that seem to provide a slight barrier for these coaches? Do we accept that injuries are the cause of our inept offense since we are missing Nicks, Martin, and Williams? Do we honestly believe the ending to the Freeman saga set this team back and distracted them from success?Do we believe having a rookie QB is an excuse for the losses piling up?Are we to think that a tough schedule is a true disadvantage (.577)?I'm not big on injuries being used for excuses personally. I could understand Martin and Williams being injured hurts. But losing Nicks should be second season shouldn't hurt as much as it has. How many games did he play last year? and we still put up solid numbers on offense? I do think the Freeman saga severely distracted the team but it was allowed because of coaching/team management. They really should've cut him in the off season or gone "all in" with him. Freeman probably clearly saw the change to Glennon coming and didn't like it. Hell I could see it with the amount of reps in preseason. So Freeman quit, Freeman sucks. I understand. But was it 0-8 bad? In todays NFL Rookie QBs come in and play. They play well too. So using that excuse is out the door. Yes we have played a hard schedule against some tough teams. But shouldn't we have a tough team of our own? After the season I hope its TBA. Not Trust, Belief and Accountability. I hope the HC in To Be Announced after the firing of Greg Schiano and Staff.

I literally just typed out a whole thread about this exact topic. Then I decided not to post it and x'd out.I'll say this though... The decision on Schiano in a couple weeks will tell us how much of a crap the Glazers actually give.

Probably wasn't supposed to be a comedy routine, but veered straight off the tracks.

Yo, I aint buying the excuses especially in Year 5 of Marky Mark Dominick's tenure as GM.Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with cancer and missed half the season last year, yet the Colt still. made the playoffs with a rookie QB in "rebuilding" mode. The Baltimore Ravens are in "rebuilding" mode and lost key veteran leadership, yet they are on the verge of making the playoffs this year. The Packers lost their starting Hall of Fame QB and a number of key players to injuries on defense and at WR, yet they're in position to make the playoffs this year. The Dolphins had their soap opera in Miami with the 2 O-linemen, yet they are about to make the playoffs.New England had a turnstile at WR and TE, yet they are in position to make the playoffs.Seattle has lost key players on defense in their secondary, yet they're still probably the best defense in the NFL.Yo, the list goes on and on and on. There are some legit circumstances that have made it tough for us to win, but truly talented teams and teams with mental toughness (and good coaching) can overcome these things. That's the difference.

Injuries...no. You can say we have X # on IR but no one who matters. Tell me when GMC, Revis, VJAX or David goes on IR. Everyone else is pretty much a  bag of rocks. MW19 is the only guy who kinds matters and that is mostly because the other WR's we have on the roster are such crap. Martin was doing nothing this year, sub 4.0 ypc and he's been replaced by the other 2 guys. Nicks hasn't shown he matters while he has been here. Honestly I can't even tell you who the other 12 guys on IR are - i mean PR announcing Russel Shepperd is our 15th guy on IR sorta tells you what that means.Freeman matters because when your QB sucks it takes you down with it. He is the reason we lost the first 3 games.Rookie QB is killing us as well because he isn't getting enough out of the passing game. Here is the thing with both guys, their situations were bungled. As we learn more and more we know Freeman was coming apart last year but the staff still rolled on to keep him in place for this year. Yes it would have taken some chest hair to bench a "record setting" QB but that is what they are paid to do, make the tough calls. Yes, Glennon makes life tougher but at the same time is the staff doing all it can to help him in terms of gameplanning? Don't think so.Schedule, don't every want to hear about that. It was no "excuse" when Rah won with his scheudle nor that we are losing with ours now. The "problems" here might at best say there is a ceiling on where we could go but nothing says we have to be this bad. Keep in mind, it isn't just the record but how we've gotten here (flags, missed tackles, terrible gameplans) that define the Rutgers ineptitude.

I am with you on everything but this.  Do some play well?  Yes, but I think you are using only your short term memory of Luck/Griffin/Wilson/Newton.  Glennon was a 3rd rounder for a reason...yea so was Wilson, but he is an anomaly, not the rule. How did these recent rookie QB's play?  EJ Manuel, Geno Smith, Brandon Weeden, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy.Can rookies play well...yes.  Can you bank on it (especially from the 3rd round)...absolutely not.

Just apply liberal amounts of self-pity to the wound and all is well....they tried hard for their coach.

Injuries are not an excuse, but they are a consideration . .  if one is being fair.  You decide the weight to put on injuries, but they are a factor in the Bucs current woes . . . as was Freeman and as is Schiano's coaching.  They are all considerations . ..  if the object of the exercise is fairness

This is has to be the most amazing piece of the Schiano strategy. (And yes it is a strategy) Against the Jets, we were down 15-14 with a little over 2 minutes left, John Lynch made the following comment: "If Josh Freeman is a franchise QB, he'll lead this drive for a field goal and the win." If you recall we got the field goal. The Jets had 38 seconds on the clock and we lost. Not on Freeman. Against the Saints, Freeman led a late game drive and on 3rd and 6, Schiano calls an off tackle power that went for zero. We miss a 47 year field goal. We were still up 15-14 with a minute to go. Then we lost to the Patriots on the road. The fact that so many believe the Freeman was THE reason we started 0-3, shows how well Schiano sold the idea. I don't know the details of what happened with Freeman, but no way did he quit on his teammates. And no way, he was the reason we started 0-3.

I don't think the presence of Carl Nicks, Mike Williams, and Doug Martin suddenly makes this a Top 10 offense. Guess I'm pessimistic

did you discuss that with Freeman at the team meal before the Jets game? Or, more recently, like while he is sitting on the bench for the Vikes?

Meh, I don't think (or at least I hope) that noone's trying to say that Freeman played well those first three games.  It's just that he was hardly the only issue the team had.  As I said at the time, early this season, I don't think the team looked like a good, well-coached team with QB issues.  They looked like a lousy, horribly-coached team with QB issues.  That's not an effort to excuse Freeman.  At all.

I'm not buying tickets anymore if they make more excuses than wins. The glazers and schiano are holding this team back. Either they go cheap, or go stupid.

Do we accept the excuses that seem to provide a slight barrier for these coaches? NoDo we accept that injuries are the cause of our inept offense since we are missing Nicks, Martin, and Williams? Yes, injuries do matter, teams that win at the end of the year are often the most healthyDo we honestly believe the ending to the Freeman saga set this team back and distracted them from success? Having the most important player not fully committed is a big problem, not an excuse today thoughtDo we believe having a rookie QB is an excuse for the losses piling up?Not an excuse but a reality, the way we have lost is the indictment not the actual losses. The inability of Sully to make this offense look anything other than horrid is the indictmentAre we to think that a tough schedule is a true disadvantage (.577)?Yes, playing more tougher means makes it harder to win.

Schiano isn't a very good coach but this team played well enough to win more than 4 games. If this season gets replayed again we win more than 4 games. We had several opportunities blown by freakish type calls and plays that simply don't happen very often.
