Liam Coen. The offense didn't look like the first game. Sure it's preseason, but this is a brand new offense installed and the starting QB wasn't in the game. It seemed like the players aren't having a problem figuring out what to do.
36 minutes of ball possession. The defense only got to play for 23 minutes, and that includes the first drive with Burrow and Higgins in the game that took six and a half minutes. 136 yards rushing. All the RBs looked good because they had holes to run through. Coen's plan to create running lanes seemed to work. Perhaps the other team didn't know how to game plan against this new offense or didn't care to, but the early returns on the Coen offense are something to get excited about.
New coaches, new scheme and of course upgrading the interior OL depth with some beef helped a lot. We know the WRs, TEs and RBs are capable in the passing game as they will cause opponents fits if the run game continues like this and Coen can incorporate play action to keep Mayfield's jersey clean.
There doesn't need to be that much improvement for this offense to really help in a big way compared to last season. But if they improve a lot more than we anticipate it will help this defense a lot.
Coen
Trask played well too.
Dropped this fundamental football acumen after the game too:
”I mean, when you can get the running game going like that, that’s all you can ask for that opens up the entire offense”
Coen will be a HC this time next year at this rate
saints maybe?
Just glad to see the running game working... We will see how good Canales is/was with that Panthers mess.
Trask looks to have ball security issues but also had some nice throws. I like him as our backup.
Wanted to see McMillan play a little more
@donkey_hunter never would’ve thought canales would be one and done either.
time will tell!

Not trying to give you a hard time. I save that for the 2-3 unintelligent Baker d*ck riders that magically showed up this offseason. Lol.
In all seriousness though, if Coen fields a Top-10 offense this season, he isn’t going anywhere.
Glazers would make him one of the highest paid OC’s in the league or look at him as Bowles’ replacement.
Even if it turns out Coen knows how to draw up a good offense, it would be a mistake to think he's ready for a HC position after one year. Carolina chose Canales after one year and we have yet to see how that bold move turns out. But Canales was known for his leadership qualities more than as an offensive guru type of guy. And that's what you need to be a HC. Though it appears that everyone likes Coen, at this stage he doesn't strike me as the type of inspirational leader that you need as a head coach. Just because you can throw down some Xs and Os doesn't make you a good head coach. If Coen's offense is a success that will no doubt lead him to head coaching land eventually, but not after one year IMO.@donkey_hunter never would’ve thought canales would be one and done either.

Agree with TF.
Canals and Coen are not that similar in terms of their personality. Canales came here after years under a legendary Head Coach learning to be a HC. He’s not some X and o guy.
still very excited to see what Coen can create as OC

it’s a hell of a hypothetical to ponder
if he’s ok with OC role, then yes money heals all wounds
But if he’s getting looked at for head coaching roles, team misses playoffs, a no brainer to replace Bowles with him; reminisce of koetter for lovie
But how about this situation - we have a top 10 offense and make playoffs again; could they replace Bowles?
I know you mention anything less than a playoff win is disappointing but the team overachieved expectations last year and nobody is putting them up there with the class of the NFC like they did in Brady years.
But how about this situation - we have a top 10 offense and make playoffs again; could they replace Bowles?
more likely he gets an extension lol
Ah, the ever present #TraskForce.@donkey_hunter never would’ve thought canales would be one and done either.

Do agree with the Bowles-to-Coen eventuality, as well as the proposed if statement.
Although, that would require a QB playing well within the offense. Who ya’ got?

There she is!
As I had mentioned earlier, I think it would result in a massive pay day for Coen (assuming someone tries to poach him) to remain OC.
I have faith the brass would do what it takes to keep him around.
And, yes, it would require a QB playing well.

I mean, if we're not moving forward, we're moving backwards.
Obviously, lots of factors involved, but it's not out of the question.
