Clayborn - 7.5, 0, 6Allen - 9,11,7.5,15.5,14.5,14.5,11,22,12,11.5Tell me again about productivity being similar.
Who is talking about their history? I'm saying right now.
Ok...Clayborn - 6Allen - 11.5Similar productivity?

I would definitely like Jared Allen as a Buc, but NOT for big $$$ with the expectations of him tearing it up for 4 quarters of 16 games. As part of a rotation, also playing on 3rd downs over Clayborn, heck YES. As Gholston keeps developing, we don't want to put him at the end of the bench by bringing in a higher-priced guy who would demand major minutes.

Likewise...AC and JA are totally different DE's with totally different skill sets. About the only thing they have similar is a high motor. AC has yet to produce what JA did in his worst season. I like AC, he has a place on this team, but he is not nearly as good of a pass rusher. Are their other qualities that a DE should have, yes. But the one quality all of our DE's currently lack is getting to the QB....which is a quality JA possesses. Having our young guys around him for a couple years is probably worth the contract alone.
Wait for Peppers to get released. If you're going to spend big money, spend it next year on the Kracken (Carolina will tag him this year).
I'm a huge Jared Allen fan, but I mostly agree with Bradentonian here. Don't look at the sack number alone, watch the games. If you think he's similar to what he was even a few years ago you haven't watched him. He's still a hard-worker and he's a good finisher, but he's not putting the same amount of pressure on QBs (as Brad's numbers point out). That said....it's all about price with me. If he's truly at a reasonable price and we can use him where he's taking 60% of the snaps and staying fresh, I'm cool with it.

Im not comparing him to his younger self, Im comparing him to anyone on our roster. His down numbers are still better than any one of ours. Do I want him, yes. Do I want to overpay for him, no.

I understand, but you are looking at a single "down number" which happens to be pretty good. I'm worried about the down pressures/hits/hurries. I can tell you from watching Bruce Smith up close in his latter years that guys who have been elite sackers can still make up the sack numbers in part because they understand how to finish. Bruce Smith had 9 sacks in his second to last year in the pros, but I can assure he was absolutely terrible. Again, at the right price, with the right snap numbers, I can see it. Problem is I think he'll be quite expensive. And then the choice is about value.

Agree 100%...its about value. Ive said that from the beginning. If he gets offered anything more than 2 years/$12 mil then I wish him the best. Our new GM just came from the franchise that brought in J. Abraham at the twilight of his career as well. Even if Allen drops down to 9 sacks next year, it would still be viewed as an upgrade to me because there is a strong likelihood that McCoy/AC/Gholston would see a boost in their numbers just from having Allen in Pewter...but for the right price.

McCoy is pretty much a carbon copy of Kevin Williams
Forgive me for questioning your talent evaluation capability.

Do you have a better comparison? I still think that's pretty spot on

While I dont have one off the top of my head, Im pretty sure my list wouldnt include someone who started their career as a DE.
JA COME ON DOWN, he's better than any DE we have JMHO Thanks

I would rather not throw big money at anyone this off season. Add some pieces the smart way, not the Dom way. Would take Allen, Tuck, Peppers on a reasonably priced 2 year deal if its possible. If not, get some reasonably priced OL and a slot WR.
The problem is we need help for the Dline and its probably not going to come from a rookie unless we got Clowney which isnt happening at 7. Im crossing my fingers that Bowers steps up his game, Gholston gets better, and Clayborn has his best season since hes been healthy for a while now. Those are all pretty realistic things which could help.
Bowers stepping up his games is "pretty realistic"?
Yea it is. I'd be shocked if he came into 2014 training camp out of shape again and at the same level of play as 2013. I don't know how quality of a pass rusher he'll be, but I fully expect him to be better than he was last year. He's healthy right now, he knows he sucked last year, he knows he didnt prepare like he should have, and he knows he's under review and potentially on the chopping block. Do you think Bowers not stepping up his game is pretty realistic?
