Lack of story lines and character development has hurt wrestling. I still watch bits and pieces on Mondays though.
nothing like old school wrestling.. triple H, Stone cold , the Rock when he was 100% in to wrestling god i miss those days.
That's not old school wrestling
No doubt.Terry & Dory Funk, Harley Race, Jack & Jerry Briscoe, Steve Keirn, Thunderbolt Patterson, Pak Song, Dlck Murdoch, the Assassin......THAT is old school wrestling!
Met Rick Flair in person at Daytona Beach when I was in high school. Bunch of the wrestlers were there for a Bash at the Beach. Cool dude. My bro and I got a couple of "woooooooooo's" in with him.
As I showed in the pirate cove he actually started out as a 300 pound mauler. In 1974 I believe he survived a plane crash but broke his back in 3 places. Was told he would never wrestle again. Came back in 6 months. Probably when he lost all that weight and continued in at 240 and changed how he wrestled. That's also around the time he "borrowed" the whole Nature Boy routine from 50s wrestler Buddy Rodgers. Over 40 years in the business.
Last Monday night was "old school"...same guys who are always in the back were there except for DDP and Jake the snake! I totally flipped out when his music hit.Hogan is supposed to be coming back for Weestlemania. ..I hope it's Hollywood Hogan! Nwo 4 life!
I loved me some old school wrestling. How anyone can watch that garbage they show today is beyond me.
Used to love going to the old Armory for the matches when Dusty Rhoades was wrestling. Always had fun.
Dusty Rhodes was ahead of his time, no doubt. Had he come around later, he'd have been 'bigger' than Hogan!!
I agree. Hogan lived down the street from me back in the 70s......of course he was Terry then.
Jimmy Hart is at Hogan's Beach in Tampa quite often. Very cool guy, will talk about the old times and take pictures.
once worked "security" at a big wrestling event . . Rick Flair . . bunch of others. Little ridiculous for me to be charged with "protecting" these guys entering and leaving the ring. . all good guys, funny to watch them all hang out in the same locker room
I worked for Vince at the WWF in Stamford, CT for two years. True story. Crazy place to work.Kayfabe.

Greg the Hammer lived a block away from my high school and next door to a girl I knew.

I was there in the late 90s in the corporate office. Shane McMahon (my age) was just starting and Stephanie was an intern (hot!). Guys like Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, and Razor Ramon were the draw. I was bigger than Triple H at the time. Not anymore! Man, many of them are dead now. Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Mr. Perfect... crazy. Those guys live hard. Most of them are moody. The road is a tough place to be all the time. Going from town to town, staying in crappy hotels. Only a few guys really make good money. Most of them are heavy pill poppers and drinkers. Stories... let me see... I was there in Nashville for one PPV when Double J Jeff Jarrett refused to lose his belt and told Vince to f-off back stage. He and the Roadie left the building during a live PPV event!I was also there when they stepped up the sex stuff with all kinds of models and Penthouse Pets backstage. Sunny was the hottest one. Can't believe how bad she looks now! Used to drool over her in the Titan gym. There's all kinds of wrestling vernacular I had to learn from 'a work' to he's a 'face' or a 'heel.' Then there's the whole Kayfabe thing. These guys were very serious about playing out 'the works,' even in the office. You'd be surprised how much of the matches are improvised as the two wrestlers work together to put on a show. Only the finish is actually decided beforehand, and the finish is only communicated to the wrestlers in the tunnel just before they enter the ring.Met the Nature Boy once. Very cool guy. All kinds of stories about him riding the makeup girls down the hall of hotels naked, etc. Wild dude. He came back for a bit, just like Roddy Piper and the Ultimate Warrior. No one liked the warrior.Nothing more pathetic than seeing the locals tryout in each town to participate in the undercard. Some serious nut jobs! Stockton, CA was the absolute worst!Vince is an amazing guy. Very hands on with everything that happens from the story lines to talent to the overall business strategy. The guy is a real visionary and marketing genius. WWF was raking in mega-millions between live events, merchandise, 900 numbers (remember that?), AOL/internet, TV rights, sponsorships, and pay-per-view. It was just an odd place to work as half of the staff is from the 'wrestling business' while the other half (like me) just viewed wrestling as a product. They've got all these ex-wrestlers working for the company like Chief J Strongbow and George 'The Animal' Steel. It was just strange to interact with these people in an office setting or on the road. Two years was enough but it sure was interesting!
Hate dont forget Mr. Wrestling 1 AND 2.. Blackjack Mulligan and even The Spoiler, Don Muraco, Kevin Sullivan. And never forget the great Mr. Solie "Thats all she wrote"
I have a pretty good Ric Flair story. A friend of a friend (yes, I'm being that guy) lived down the street from Flair when he lived in Charlotte. She said he was one of the nicest guys on the block always posing for pictures and little kids would yell "wooooo" and he would give them a wooo right back. But the funniest thing she said was Flair would mow the yard in nothing but his beautiful blonde locks and a thong. WOOOOOO ! ! ! On a side note, Mason Foster does the Flair strut. Is Mason a fan, does anyone know the story behind that?
I saw the Macho Man at a gas station by St. Pete beach once. My claim to game.
