Hurry-up offense: QB Griffin learning Bucs' system fastGreg Auman, Times Staff WriterThursday, September 10, 2015 USA TodayRyan Griffin's football life has changed considerably in the past week.In his first two NFL seasons with the Saints, Griffin hasn't taken a snap, but the 25-year-old had the chance to learn from two seasoned veterans Drew Brees, 36, and Luke McCown, 34. Cut by New Orleans on Saturday, he was claimed by the Bucs, where he's working to quickly learn a new offense and put himself in position to help starter Jameis Winston and backup Mike Glennon."I've spent the majority of my time in the quarterback room, watching film and the installs. It's going pretty well, picking up the stuff," said Griffin, who has thrown for 794 yards and four touchdowns in the last two preseasons with the Saints. "It's been a lot of studying. I want to learn it as fast as I possibly can, so I can help this team. If I can know what's going on in our gameplan on Sunday, I can recognize some things the defense is doing and communicate with the guys."He's also doing it as the oldest quarterback in the room, born 25 days before Glennon in 1989 and well before Winston, who is 21."It's been awesome. They've been great," said Griffin, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 210 pounds. "It's a lot of fun having a bunch of young guys. I think we're probably the youngest (quarterback) room across the league. Everyone works hard. Very intelligent guys, and working with (OC) Dirk (Koetter) and (QBs coach) Mike (Bajakian) has been great."The Bucs aren't the youngest QB room in the NFL -- that distinction goes to Oakland, which only has starter Derek Carr, 24, and Matt McGloin, who is 25 and two weeks younger than Griffin. The Rams aren't far behind with Nick Foles, 26, and Case Keenum, 27, but every other team in the league has at least one quarterback with four years or more of NFL experience.Griffin, who started parts of four seasons at Tulane, has a few familiar faces in the room -- he actually went to high school with Bucs safety Chris Conte at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, and the two have kept in touch ever since.
