With all the questions out there, I decided to take a look at the schedule to find out the path to the #1 pick. To start, with the completion of week 15, there is a three game difference (in opponent total wins) between the Bucs 107.5 wins and Titans 110.5 wins. For this to even matter, we have to assume both the Titans and Bucs lose their last two games. The Bucs play the Packers and the Saints and the Titans play the Jags and the Colts. With the Bucs and Titans both losing, it will add three to the Buc’s opponents total wins but since both teams the Titans play are also divisional foes, they will have 4 wins added. Now the difference is 4. Any victory (or loss) by the Ravens, Steelers, Redskins, Bengals and Browns is irrelevant as both the Bucs and Titans played those teams once and the win or loss would be added to each accordingly. So the teams we need to lose are Saints, Falcons, Panthers, Rams, Vikings, Bears and the Lions. The teams we need to win are Texans, Jags, Colts, Chiefs, Cowboys, Giants, Jets and Eagles. Note – I am just counting victories because in the end, the team whose opponents have the fewer number of victories will also have the lower SOS. Also remember, when looking at the below games, do not count the Titans or Bucs games into the equation. It is assumed if either wins a game, this whole thing is irrelevant. So the starting difference is Bucs by 4 (meaning 4 less victories). Lastly, the Bengals vs Panthers tie added 1.5 (1 for Panthers and .5 for the Bengals) to the Bucs and .5 to the Titians.Bucs – 110.5Titans – 114.5Week 16 GamesTitans vs Jag’s - Assume Titans loss, so plus 2 to total wins (already calculated in above) Eagles vs Redskins – Redskins are N/A, Eagles win adds to Titans total +1Chargers vs 49’s – N/ARaven vs Texans – Ravens are N/A, A Texans win/loss counts 2 for the Titans Browns vs Panthers – Browns are N/A, Panthers worth 2 for BucsLions vs Bears - +1 Bucs no matter the resultPackers vs Bucs – Assumed Packers victory, (already calculated in above)Chief vs Steelers – Steelers win is N/A, Chiefs victory is +1 to Titans totalVikings vs Dolphins – Dolphins win is N/A but Vikings win add 1 to Bucs totalPats vs Jets – Pats win is N/A, a Jets win adds one to Titan totalFalcons vs Saints – No change for Titans, +2 for Bucs no matter the resultGiants vs Rams – Rams victory is +1 for Bucs, Giants victory is +1 for TitansBills vs Raiders – NAColts vs Cowboys – NA to Tampa, +2 Titans for Colts victory, +1 for Cowboys VictorySeahawks vs Cardinals – NABroncos vs Bengals – NA (Bucs both played Bengals and did not play Broncos)Week 17Bills vs Patriots – NABrowns vs Ravens – NA – (Both teams played both teams)Panther vs Falcons - +2 for Bucs no matter the resultBears vs Vikings - +1 Bucs no matter the resultBengals vs Steelers – NA- (Both teams played both teams)Cowboys vs Redskins – Redskins victory NA, Cowboys +1 for TitansChargers vs Chiefs – Chargers victory NA, Chiefs victory +1 TitansLions vs Packers - +1 Bucs no matter the resultJag’s vs Texans - +2 Titans no matter the resultColts vs Titans – Assumed Titans loss so +2 for them (Already calculated above)Jets vs Dolphins – Dolphins win NA, Jets win +1 TitansSaints vs Bucs – assumed Bucs loss so +2 Saints (Already calculated above)Eagles vs Giants – NA for Bucs, +1 Titans no matter the resultRaiders vs Broncos – NACardinals vs 49’s – NARams vs Seahawks – NA for Titans, Rams win is +1 for BucsSo by looking at the games, no matter what, Bucs will add 7 victories to their opponents win total (highlighted in green)and the Titans will add 3. That means the Bucs and Titans are TIED at SOS with 117.5 each. You can see above which teams we need to win. We need some help.
