The REAL reason the Glazers fired Lovie Smith is simple. We know they are businessmen, driven to make money. That means selling tickets obviously.Just look at Lovie’s record! 0-8 last season, the worst home record in Buccaneer history save for tying it in 1976 during their rag tag inaugural season where it was expected. Follow that up by starting this season against the second worst team in the league the previous season, the Titans, at home. Close to a sellout and dominated by Buccaneer fans (few visiting fans), the team comes out after having months to prepare and absolutely sticks in a blowout. The team stumbles along until winning big in Philly. Yes, a home win over the Cowboys helped though by then the visiting fans were in the tens of thousands. Anyway, hope among the fans was returning. The crowds were becoming more pro Buccaneer! And what happened? The team comes out in front of large crowds and just stinks again. Beating the Falcons was nice but inexcusable blow outs by teams like the Saints and the Bears at home followed. By the time the Bears came to town the large visiting fans returned to run it in the faces of the faithful. And there’s the Thursday Night game. National television and again, another blowout. The Glazers are smart enough to know that these kind of discouraging losses adding up to a fifth consecutive finish in the basement for our Buccaneers were not going to increase ticket sales. They had to be as disappointed, indeed as pissed off, as the season ticket holders who were once again let down big time. Hope? Lovie dashed it out with crap games when it mattered most. And thus the Glazers dashed out Lovie himself. Enough was enough for that I’m grateful he got the boot. He deserved it.
