...but three sports leagues cancelled their games because of player initiative, and only one of those three is majority African American. That's never happened before, ever. MLB is 29% African American. The NHL is 93% White and 7 % mixed other. Another majority African American league is not playing games. And if they were playing its safe to say that if there was a football game on Sunday there would be no football game on Sunday.
This movement whatever it is is not by blacks for blacks. Its Americans for blacks, Americans who want America to treat everyone fairly regardless of the color of their skin, and blacks aren't getting fair treatment by the justice system. They want "one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all". That sounds pretty good.
Nobody on this board thinks that an unarmed man should be shot in the back 7 times with his kids watching. But these senseless acts keep happening to blacks in disproportionate numbers. When we start to move on and try to forget one thing happened, another thing happens. By now we should realize it isn't going to stop unless something is done.
But all the protests and cancellations won't amount to anything. It has to end in legislation, and in today's world it will have to be at least somewhat bipartisan.
In America the laws come first and the minds change later. That's the way it works unfortunately. Thats how it worked when MLK marched on Washington. It ended in the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 which ended segregation in public places. Now it is overwhelmingly accepted that public places shouldn't be segregated. But it took the law to make it happen. The Supreme Court ruled in Brown vs. Board of Ed 1 and 2 to desegregate schools. That wouldn't have happened just because of a social movement. Now mainstream society believes schools should not be segregated.
All these protests, as unprecedented as they are, will not amount to much if there is no legislation. That legislation has to be police reform. I don't know what the George Floyd act says and I don't care. There has to be some kind of legislation and not the kind that comes from Donald Trump or from BLM. It has to come from the cooperation of the majority of both houses.
Most police are good at what they do. We need the police. But there is one thing they seem unable to police: Themselves. Something has to be done. America has had enough.
