If the team can trade down, I'm fine with this. Although right now, I think Trent Murphy is my favorite trade down target. If they can't find a good partner though, I definitely wouldn't be a fan of the team draft a TE in the first.
Ask yourself this, though. Which player is more likely to be a top 5 pro at his position, Ebron or Murphy?
well would you rather have the 5th best TE or the 10th best DE?
Thing is....there's a much larger pool of good DEs than TEs in free agency this year that could fill the Bucs needs.Top tier TEs are hard to come by.....I'd still rather have Ebron or Amaro
Ebron please. Nobody else has a higher ceiling and the TE position is valuable enough in today's game that choosing a sure bet like Ebron at no.7 is not out of the question IMO.It would surely be better than taking a Barr or Mack which would be wasting a premium pick.
Not too impressed with Amaro. He lacks explosiveness and can't block at all. SefarianJenkins is intriguing. Just one question, why does he fall down every time he catches the ball or even falls down with very little physical impact. Not impressed at all with that aspect of his game. Ebron could be top 15 but I don't see any other 1st round TE out of this bunch.
I think the TE spot has evolved where the value in R1 does exist BUT you are looking for a very specific skill set as a reciever. I finally saw Ebron in his bowl and while I liked what I saw I don't know that he looks like a top 15 type of player. He is someone if we trade down to recoup that 3rd I can see us going for but if we stay at 7 can't see him being the best pick there.

No, I totally agree....this is all dependent on trading down in the first round. Drafting a TE at 7 would be ludicrous.
With a deep QB draft, the need for a speedy slot guy, a porous OL, and the need for a pass rusher, using a 1st round pick on a TE would be insane...

We need an elite talent at no.7. From my view once Bridgewater Clowney Bortles and Mathews are gone you are going to be forced to pick what you hope turns out to be an elite player at a non premium position. I would be okay with any elite player at any position at that point but TE is a very valuable position right now in my view and with Tedfords offense having Wright and Ebron part of a 4 receiver set allows you to do many many things that other players such as Watkins simply cannot do. It will be much harder to get Watkins isolation and get him the ball in space then ir will be to create a mismatch with Ebron who matches up well vs. LB or DB.
Also for comparison sake Cordarrelle Patterson is much more explosive than Watkins and he didn't have much of an impact on the Vikings offense this year. My theory is that's because it's hard to get him that mismatch that gets him the ball in space that allows his natural talent to shine through. On the other hand even a mundane player such as Wright with his size was able to have good production by creating separation from LBs and using his range against DBs.
If we are going to take a offensive weapon in the first round I want Sammy Watkins, kid is a straight play maker and will be a nightmare for defenses. Tedford likes to spread his wr's out, imagine Vjax,MW and Sammy out there, good luck to the defenses. As for Tight End, we need to add another one but am I the only one who can't wait to see how good Tim Wright can be with some good game-planning for him on O? The kid had 50 plus catches and over 500 yards and 5 tds and he didn't even play the first few games. I think he can be a legit stud tight end in this league.

Thats crazy talk! Harder to get Watkins in space?? Heard of a screen pass? I highly doubt Patterson is more explosive than Watkins. And Patterson is an all pro returner...i would say thats a good enough impact for a developing wr
3 ) What does EVERY other great offense have? An elite TE that can create mismatches down the middle of the field.
This is basically the only relevant part of your argument and what it boils down to is FOTM.
Yeah let's replace the kid who was double teamed constantly the second half of the year and still had one of the best statistical seasons for a rookie tight end.I swear man, this board gets so caught up in cliches and names and tries to make every position an all pro forgetting how many holes we have. A pick on a tight end is a wasted pick. With Wright as the #1 and Crabtree #2, we have a solid tight end group. Spend picks fixing the pass rush, the OLINE, JFF if we can get him, some speed at wideout.
lol at watkins not being as good as cordorelle patterson lmao or as explosive gtfo
If we are going after a TE I would rather get Austin Seferian-Jenkins at the top of the second. He may not be quite as good of a receiver as those 2 (albeit pretty close) but he is a better blocker and will likely fall to the 2nd.
Couldn't have said it better. TE in the 1st is bad value imo.
Patterson is very raw Wr. Watkins is not.
Watch for Cal TE Richard Rodgers Tedford Recruited him was very high on him. Had some carries this year which is crazy cause he is 6' 6".
