As for Licht forcing Bowles' hand on Trask, that's conceivable if the Bucs are out of the playoff hunt, but in this division when will they be mathematically eliminated? OK lets just say when they lose ten games they're out. One of the next few games is against Carolina, so lets say the wheels fall off and they go 1-4 in the next five games. That puts them at 5-10 and they're done. That leaves two games for Trask. Perhaps the Saints game will be meaningful because it's the Saints. But the last game against Carolina we'll be playing for a better lottery slot, and by the way the Panthers won't be.
And that scenario is assuming the wheels totally fall off. The most likely scenario is that the Week 17 Saints game will have an impact, and so if Trask gets a start it will be for a final shit show game against the Panthers. Even if that happens, it wouldn't be a chance for Trask to prove anything.
Trask isn't going to get his chance this year unless Mayfield gets injured. Like it or not, that's the reality.

or just plays poorly resulting in a key loss
I dont think its only for injury. Injury, poor play and/or out of it.
Every Buc fan should be hoping Trask never gets in this year, but also that if he does he blows the doors off of it. The best thing for the Bucs is for Trask to succeed.

I expect the GM to be smart enough to realize this team isn’t doing squat in the playoffs, even if they get in. He needs to think about next year and getting this team back to a championship contender.

JC (aka Buggsy) suggesting that Licht should go to Bowles and tell him to bench Mayfield BECAUSE “ EVEN IF YOURE GOING TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS COACH you'll not go far”

How about bench Mayfield because he's leaving points on the board and the team is losing?
OK. I'm not saying what should or shouldn't happen. I'm just telling you what's not going to happen. They aren't going to bench Mayfield. With all the problems the Bucs have, Mayfield is the least of the Bucs' worries. You know Bowles. It takes an act of Congress for him to bench a player. For him to bench the QB it will take Vince Lombardi to appear next to a burning bush. It ain't gonna happen. How about bench Mayfield because he's leaving points on the board and the team is losing?
Last game of the year, maybe, and honestly that would be to create some trade value for Trask. Because the most likely thing to happen will be to keep Mayfield as a bridge QB and draft a guy in the first round. That means Trask is expendable and they'll try to get a draft pick for him.
Does anybody really think Trask will get his shot here in Tampa Bay? Again, you may think he should, but do you think he will?
How about bench Mayfield because he's leaving points on the board and the team is losing?
he is. He’s definitely not great BUT you’re arguing to replace him with a newby when clearly he’s had us in position to win.
I am just saying that is not typically the way it works with a coach fighting for his job and in a playoff hunt.
in other words … reality

Lol.
I give you credit.
Just when I think your takes couldn't get any worse.

DH, you’re suddenly in charge. … to turn this team around your FIRST move is the bench Mayfield?
honestly, Mayfield is THE problem for the Buccaneers?

We're in 11th place in the NFC despite being #9 in points allowed and you think starting Mayfield gives Bowles more security? In what world does that make sense. Gruden would have never gotten fired if he played McCown in Atlanta in 2008. He stuck with the two shitty journeymen and got fired anyway.

Gruden was getting fired anyway (and I am a fan)
JC, anytime you pull out the deep stats its like you're conceding the point right in front of you and that is that the Bucs are still in the playoff chase and they got there with Mayfield SO YES Bowles probably thinks (and that is the point) that Mayfield gives him a better chance then playing Trask just "to see what he's got."
He might play Trask IF HE THOUGHT TRASK gave him a better chance to win, but hes not going to change for the sake of change
That is BASIC COMMON SENSE
DH has his Baker agenda.
I don't think he does anything to get us over the hump but he's not a huge issue for me with this team. Coaching is number one (mostly Bowles).
But as far as the draft goes... it is LOADED at QB. You cannot skip taking a QB this year. It would be criminal.
Ewers and JJ are a hard pass for me tho. Would prefer Ewers over JJ if I had to.
I'm banging the table for Penix. I think he drops due to injury concerns.
