The only reason you fire a coach midseason is if you have a chance to do something, and the Bucs do. Gruden isn't going to get the team to love him in two games, but he'll be able to manage a game.
We have to fire Bowles now and bring in someone from the outside. We might have a chance to win the next two games and get to the playoffs. Who's available? John Gruden. That's pretty much it. It can just be interim. That's fine. Don't have to hire him next year. Gruden will be glad to get his feet wet and pad his resume for next year.

Terrible scenario from top to bottom. First of all Gruden would want assurances that he’d be coach next year (we’ve seen his movie before, and his offense is antiquated). Secondly he’d have to let Griz call his plays the final 2 weeks, and I’m not sure Gruden would cede that much control…third Grudens abrasive personality toward players would alienate the locker room before he even had a chance to do anything with it. Yes it would get rid of some of the dead weight, but it also might prompt Evans to retire or worse sign somewhere else in the offseason. I’ll always be thankful to Gruden for bringing the first Lombardi to TB, but his time with this team has passed, as he wasn’t even very good in Oakland before he was let go. Let Bowles finish out the season, and then conduct a proper coaching search in the offseason.
