Just not sure Bowles ranks it the same way we do. I believe he thinks he can generate pass rush - or coverage - week to week.

I didn’t say I agreed with it, but it is kinda what he’s known for… I think hybrid defenses can be good at a couple things, but only do one of those things very well. Even if you have very good athletes doing those things, they don’t always transfer in every situation. (ie, run-stopping ILB’s that are asked to drop into coverage, consistently).

He’s changed somewhat from his NYJ days, but at his core, that’s who he is.

just don’t think he believes a spectacular edge rusher is all that important to his scheme.

Thats why I don’t expect us to do anything mid-season. Still think he rides with the horses he brought into this season.

@white-tiger I completely agree with you. I've been saying this for a few years now. Bowles seems to favor defensive tackles and safeties over edge rushers and cornerbacks, which is quite the opposite of what most defensive-minded coaches typically prefer.

Bowles believes he can generate pressure without having star players, and while he has succeeded against some offenses, others have been able to exploit his blitz schemes.

His most effective defensive stretch was during the Super Bowl playoff run, where he relied mainly on a four-man rush with players like Shaq, JPP, Suh, and Vita. They were able to create pressure while the rest of the team focused on coverage, which proved successful for our team.

But I think his ego prefers blitzing. “I like my edge players. I can’t make it work.” Well, if it doesn’t it will be the downfall of the team.

Unrealistic but I would love Myles Garrett.

Jets gave reddick permission to seek a trade but they would owe the eagles a 2nd if he gets traded to an nfc team lol.

lions in the market as well just losing Adrian Hutchinson.

maxx Crosby anyone? If only lol.

I’m sure some of it is out of necessity. He would probably prefer the type of players he acquired for that Super Bowl run, but some of it is Brady/cap issues, some of it is draft position, some of it is he really believes he can scheme it.

I think he has had to adjust for temporary losses/injuries - but against better offenses/coaching that can attack/exploit what Bowles is trying to hide - it doesn’t work so well. The state of the NFC from a quality perspective may allow us to have some success, but it’s pretty evident when we run into better teams (like this stretch and should we make it the playoffs).

Our offense can help the defense with long drives but can also be explosive. It allows Bowles to run a thin defense in a bend-don’t-break style between the 20’s - and gamble on letting short fields force the offense to give him the looks he wants.

Just an observation. Maybe there’s some truth to it, maybe I’m off base.

Licht had pretty much hinted that he wasn’t going to be active in FA this past offseason (outside of our own guys). Why would he during the season?

Still paying off the bill and trying to take the long ball approach.

Dont blame him one bit for not overpaying for “vets with a name and no more game” simply because its a need.

Would rather go to the browns and go after Garrett or their LB crew.

1. Diaby isn't a dude. Most of his sacks last year were hustle/clean up sacks. Doesn't make him a bad player, but it big games, big spots you need a rush and he isn't going to give it.

2. JTS is a bust and isn't going to have a contract year explosion either.

3. Already lost the most important game of the year thus far because we got shredded.

Great.

So, who would you have targeted in FA and please reference your posts (from back then) when you mentioned it.

I wanted Greenard in the draft 4 years ago so I obviously would have signed him as a FA. Whether I posted it on here this off-season I don't know and don't care. He was one of my guys and Bucs could have had him two different off-seasons. And I was advocating for edge rushers in the 1st AND 3rd round. 1st round I had a couple guys and 3rd round I was all over Jonah Ellis. I had a very low grade on Braswell.

While it's unrealistic to expect to go all-in every year, replicating success in the NFL from one season to the next is incredibly challenging—even with the same roster.

I believe we currently have a Super Bowl-caliber offense, but how long can we maintain this level? There's a strong possibility that Coen may leave after this season, and our dynamic duo of Evans and Godwin aren’t getting any younger. At what point do we go all-in and secure those final pieces needed for a championship run?

This is a dilemma the Detroit Lions are facing after losing their star edge rusher. They realize that this year is a unique opportunity they can't afford to overlook. Will they take the necessary steps to replace their key player?

Are we content with having a top-five offense paired with a defense that can only carry us through the wild card round? A standout edge rusher could be the game-changer we need. What is our defensive window? Lavonte is nearing the end of his career, and Vita is approaching 30. Both are exceptional players, but one is on the decline while the other is nearing the end of his prime.

If you spot a genuine opportunity to make a run in a given year, you have to seize it. In a few years, we might look back and realize that this was our best shot.

So was everyone.

1st round I had a couple guys

Again, so did everyone.
