Steve Young was the consensus #1 record breaking QB from BYu following McMahon. When he got to the Bucs they were the definition of dysfunctional. No one was giving up on Young because of the Bucs and he wasn’t given time to develop. He was RESCUED
ha, couldn't resist. Seriously thought best thing for the Bucs would be for Trask to be a star. Hope he is. He will definitely get a shot
Mahomes first 4 starts was like 14 TDs, 0 INTs
Steve young first 19 starts had 11 TDs and 21 INTS.
no clue what point you are trying to make - Should we give Trask another 4 seasons to show he's got it? Is 64 games enough?
because how many QBs are given 2-3 years and aren't the guy?
How many QBs are not worth that investment? Didn't seem like the Vikings or Texans thought that way of their second round QBs that year - Mills performed admirably in his starts and nahhh just wasn't the guy and i think Mond is already selling used cars...or maybe on his second team...either way.
Trask will get his 4 starts
so the question becomes, what will Trask have to do in those 4 starts to warrant the Bucs not drafting a QB next year or worse signing a VET QB to start?
Isnt 81 starts enough for Baker? On 4 different teams at that. Losing record with all of them of course.
Meanwhile Trask can’t get one on the team that drafted him. And no it doesn’t say anything about Trask. It says something about how stupid this team is.

Baker having his best year as a pro. Progression? Hmm.
Trask was a second round pick. The last second round pick QB to amount to anything was Drew Brees more than 2 decades ago. Perhaps, just perhaps scouting has gotten better.
Trask ceiling is that of a Mike Glennon. He won’t see that kind of playing time
Probably put it like this
20% he’s out of the league after Bucs contract
60% he is at best #2, #3 QB for his career
15% becomes a #2 on a team with a suspect QB1 team and gets some playing time, ie Mike Glennon
5% dude actually becomes a starter but no team going to make him #1 it will be as #2 and he makes the most of his playing time when he gets it
lets see what happens after falcons loss. He will have to make the most of those games though because unless he dominates, can’t see Bucs seriously considering him as an option in 2024.

Except he's not.
But, make up whatever you can, to bolster your usual weak ass takes.

This has got to be one of the dumber takes I've seen. Trask was already playing better than Glennon during the preseason. He went from behind Baker to be slightly better (during the final preseason game) in a mere 6 months (some dumb ass former coach said he was basically a slow learner - ha!). Imagine what he would be like with several games of real experience and another off-season? By the way, Steve Young's first 19 games were with us when he was sacked 68 times in those 19 games. Our offensive line back then was an absolute mess. Oh, and there's been a number of good QB's out of the 2nd round, including Brett Favre, Bommer Esiason, Randall Cunningham, Ron Jaworski. So, yeah, you can get them there, and no, scouting hasn't gotten better because the 1st round keeps producing busts left and right.

statistically it’s up there
this can easily be researched on ESPN
oh that’s right you go by feelings and emotion
No. I go off facts/stats/metrics.

This is what you said, dipshit. Your words.
And, it's not true.

I think 3 or 4 games is enough. I think poor play would only decrease his value slightly, but good play would increase it to a greater degree. I'm thinking that right now he'd be worth a 5th round pick because he's under a team friendly contract. If he sucks that could go down to nothing. If he played well then maybe he could find a team where his style of play would fit better and that could go up to a 3rd round pick. Just a guess of course. But if I had to gamble a 5th round pick with a 50% chance of getting a 3rd and 50% of getting nothing I'd take the bet.
Of course, who knows what coach will come in, but I really think there's a strong possibility that Canales stays as the OC so that they don't have to start over again. In that case I don't think Trask is the best fit for the Canales offense. There are limitations of Mayfield as well. It will be interesting to see what a Canales offense can do with the right QB, one that would probably be available in the draft.
Oh...there's brilliance in action. Let's give him a few games, and if he does really well, let's trade him like we did Steve Young, because that worked out so well for us! </sarc>
Seriously. How about if he plays well, we, I don't know, maybe keep him and use our draft picks to fix the holes on this team and build around him? Maybe, just maybe, that might be a better plan than using a 1st rounder on another QB and hoping he's at least decent, which many aren't. One of the reasons why I want to see Trask play out the season is that, if he does play really well, and improves as the games go, depending on the position of the draft pick, there may be a good market for moving down a few spots and picking up extra picks. The one draft that really turned this franchise around came when we managed to get a second 1st round pick from San Diego and turned the two first rounders into Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks. Drafting like than can be a franchise rebuilder, especially when we have managed to draft some nice pieces the last few years (save the JTS and Hall picks).
According to ESPN Total QBR, Mayfield ranks as #19 in QBR with a QBR of 51.9. If that is his best year, I would hate to see his worst. Brock Purdy rates a QBR of 75.6. The worst QBR is Zach Wilson at 30.3. Mayfield is closer to Wilson than he is to Purdy.Baker having his best year as a pro.

He's in the bottom half of the league, during a year with no Brady, Rogers, or Brees. Overall QB play is worse this year than it's been in a while. He's also at the bottom in deep ball accuracy, which is why is YPA is near the bottom. Basically...he sucks. His best year was 2020 when his QBR was 65.5 which was above average. The rest is 3 seasons (including this one) in the low 50's, one in the low 40's, and then last year when he was 26.3. Which is why everyone says he's doing "good" this year, which really means he isn't playing dog poop bad. He's just playing mediocre.

what? Trask can only dream of the career glennon has had. Lmao.

Oh, please. Is that really the best you got?
Chris Godwin's wife, Mariah, is calling out Bowles and mentions that Chris is getting open a lot but not getting the ball. I wonder why that is? It can't be because of the dude that's failing to go through his reads, can it? Can't be the guy who has a history of not spreading the rock around as much as he could, can it? And some think the guy calling plays that get Chris and Mike open this much is responsible for not targeting Godwin.
I'm pretty sure Trask would spread the ball around more effectively because he was best known for reading defenses pre and post snap and getting to the open guy quickly. We saw this in the preseason as well, especially against the Jets when he got extended action which allowed him to settle in.
