1st pass: 2nd and 10 (first series) - Well placed pass to Myers for 6 yard completion. EDS on skates with a solo block on Soliai. Shotgun 3 step drop and deliver and Paul has our center in Josh's lap by the time the ball comes out. 2nd pass: 3rd and 4 (first series) - Perfectly thrown pass to Rainey 16 yards downfield. Dropped. 3rd pass: 1st and 10 (second series) - Well over thrown to Jackson on the sideline. 4th pass: 2nd and 10 (second series) - Slight over throw. 18 yards down field. Herron drops very catchable pass. First time Josh goes to second read thus far. 5th pass: 3rd and 10 (second series) - Pick 6. Pressured, which is a theme of his poor decisions. Not really a bad decision here as much as a bad throw. Behind Jackson's break allowing the DB to make a play. Easily the least awful of his interceptions thus far this season though. DB made a nice break. Again Josh locked in on his target. I want to say here that I hate our play design. Atlanta has 7 men on the l.o.s. presnap. It's 3rd and 10 and we are backed up and down 14-0 early. I'd say pretty good chance here we are seeing more then 4 rushers for Atlanta. 3 of our receivers are in the patterns immediately on the snap (Jackson, Evans, and Stocker). Myers and Rainey delay in the backfield and then both leak out (without chipping anyone) never farther then 5 yards from each other horizontally and almost exactly the same distance downfield. Why the (censored) are we putting 2 check downs right next to each other instead of having a 6th blocker here? Doesn't excuse poor execution by Josh. 6th pass: 3rd series (2nd and 10) - Good checkdown throw to Rainey for 15 yards. Rainey fumbles. Appeared as if Josh came off primary targets downfield. Even if the initial defender doesn't slip and makes the tackle it's a 5-6 yard completion and sets up a 3rd and manageable.(On 2nd and 8 of the 4th series, Josh escapes the pocket under pressure and runs for what would have been either a 1st down or 3rd and less then 1 depending on the spot. Play called back for holding.)7th pass: 2nd and 17 (4th series) - Poor throw to Jackson 17 yards downfield on an in route. Josh put the ball behind his wide open receiver. Even so, Jackson stopping his route got both hands on the ball and the ball went into his chest for an incompletion. It was not a good pass, but a very catchable one. He wasn't trying to stop him with his pass, there was no reason not to lead the receiver (not running him into any defenders). 8th pass: 3rd and 17 (4th series) - Completed screen pass snuffed out in the backfield. Horribly set up by EDS and Omameh. Not a negative on Josh. He set it up and got the ball in Bobby's hands with a nice pass (not floater). 9th pass: 3rd and 6 (5th series) - Way over Heron's head, out of bounds. The throw away pass that Josh hits his hand on. Has some time but pocket (endzone) breaking down as Josh steps up and throw the ball away. Josh takes the snap looking in the middle of the field at Evans/Jackson goes through progression to Myers on the right and then Heron on left. Another play design I absolutely hate. It's 3rd and 6 and we can't buy a first down and we are streaking our big receivers down the field. 10th pass: 1st and 10 (6th series) - Perfectly placed 34 yard pass to Evans on the sideline. 11th pass: 1st and 10 (6th series) - Checkdown to Rainey for 9 yards. 6 yard pass, well delivered. (On 2nd and 1 we leave the LE unblocked for a sack. Josh ate the football. His primary receiver covered. Didn't chuck it up. Josh is not locked in. There is eye movement in the short time he has. Stocker was open in the middle, but Josh did not have time to work down to where I'm guessing he was on the progression.)12th pass: 3rd and 9 (6th series) - Deep overthrow to Jackson. Falcons bring 6. Josh steps into a hit he sees coming to deliver downfield. Jackson's break toward the sideline brings him open, but not wide open. Josh misses deep which is the safe miss getting hit. Josh should have been 8-12 on those plays. All 3 of the catchable balls that were first downs. He got the ball out of his hands on time for the most part (when he didn't what I could see indicated his primary receiver was not open). His one bad decision with the football was punished. It's not a very high bar I grant you, but this was easily his best performance imo. Even with seeing some improvement in his game despite the blowout, I'm ready for the change. Give Mike a couple weeks as the man and lets see if he can take the job and run with it (was not impressed with his relief work this week, thought he was definitely worse then Josh).
