We have to play with urgency on offense and play with a lead to get the Panthers out of their patient run game. If we don't take a lead early it's going to be a long day.
And if we do take a lead we need to keep our foot on the peddle. Bowles cannot go into this game thinking we must pound the rock, because we will be getting ready for the offseason if we try that. Play to win, not to survive. Don’t keep lesser teams in the game with conservative play calling. Go Bucs!
You realize Leftwhich is the OC and not Bowles, right?
@rhbucsfan - absolutely. My point is that Bowles demands run first. You’ve heard it directly from him the last few weeks. Every chance he gets, Bowles states we need to run the ball more. That’s what the head guy in charge wants, so we continue to bang our heads against the wall, literally.
@ehinote Leftwhich forced the run on first down the last couple years too, before Bowles was head coach. It only worked better than because we had pro bowlers all across the line.
@rhbucsfan - I don’t agree. And we haven’t run the ball as much on 1st down in the past as we have this year. This is a Bowles thing. “Run the ball and play defense.”
This conversation will make some here very unhappy. In particular, these two comments:
Our line is worse now then when "we had pro bowlers all across the line."
"Bowles demands run first. You’ve heard it directly from him the last few weeks. "
This was Arian discussing the Bengals first half:
"The first half was the first time I’ve seen this year when Byron said, ‘Screw it, I’m going back to being me.’ This was a game Mike [Evans] should’ve had 200 [yards].”
on going with Fornette over White and whether BOWLES has a deep throwing team playing Dungy ball
"After the game, Bowles was asked about Playoff Lenny and Bowles admitted his running between the tackles was the motivation."
“He got going early, so it was kind of an inside game because it was more of a power game that way,” Bowles said. “He showed some positive runs even after they were hitting him, so we left him in there for a little while.”
Again, it turned out to be a savvy move. But there you go. Bowles wanted Playoff Lenny in there because he liked his power running.
That’s the style Bowles prefers, the Father Dungy offense. That isn’t what this offense is built to play, and that’s why it struggles so much unless it’s running a hurry-up or play-action."

Arians sticking up for his guys.
Nothing new.
He’s done this for years.
And, that “first half” Bruce is so proud of saw his boy:
* Replace White for Lenny
* Go away from PA after two good results
* Providing no adjustments or help for Watt
* Three straight runs for 0 yards while slamming Lenny into the same archaic prehistoric line run formation
* Zero uptempo
Well we need at least Smith or Wirfs playing on Sunday or we're done.
Walton was hanging on to deer life facing a rookie most of the night. Brian Burns is going to raise hell if both tackles are out.
Definitely will need the defense to create a turnover or two to win this game if Bucs don't have Smith and Wirfs back.
Even more important to keep the Carolina defense off balance with play action. If we play conservative because guys are hurt we will be in 3rd and long all day and our line will not hold up on 3rd and long. We must play to when 1st downs.
For the season, the Buccaneers' play-action rate is 16.2%.
it was 43.5 the first half against the bengals , the most all year

Anybody with a clue could see this while watching the game.
And then you have one idiot saying "the Bengals defense adjusted and played better."
They used PA 13.6% against bengals in the second half m

LOL.

From the same article probably lol:
"The Buccaneers only used play-action on 13.6% of Brady's dropbacks in the second half against Cincinnati, though it was the four straight turnovers plus a botched fake punt that led to the Bengals' barrage of unanswered points rather than any particular offensive strategy. The Buccaneers also possessed the ball for just nine of the 30 game minutes in the second half and spent most of the fourth quarter chasing a double-digit lead and eschewing the ground game (and by extension play-action)."
As anyone who could read Ben Baldwin would tell you . . most football stats, including use of PA, are situational.
Key point omitted above . . the Buccaneers "spent most of the fourth quarter chasing a double-digit lead and eschewing the ground game (and by extension play-action)."
They ESCHEWED the ground game in the 4th quarter (and by extension play-action) because they gave up a field goal and three TDs in the 3rd/beginning of 4th, I think?
