Yes there's plays left on the field for deep but deep plays are inherently lower conversion percentage.
He knows this and on 2nd and 8 you go deep instead of working to move the chains knowing a three and out is bad.

On the deep throws, they aren’t running four verts. Mayfield is making the decision to throw deep because it’s wide fucking open. There are other options to throw to on the design. The OC is not calling in for the QB to chunk it deep every play. But it is open, which is a credit to the OC. The incompletion by overthrow is on the QB.
This isn’t Pee Wee football. It’s the NFL. A NFL QB has to hit those.
I want my OC to scheme guys open for explosive scoring plays. He’s doing just that.
