The Greatest quotes in Buccaneers history by Gil Arcia July 13, 2014Sel_Zpsdffbb5C2.PngLee Roy Selmon greets son Lee Roy Jr. at a ceremony for seniors on Dec. 4, 2004. All three of his children — Brandy, Chris and Lee Roy Jr. — graduated from USF.    We are well within the NFL’s down time period which means many outlets across the nation are thinking up articles to publish with no news hitting the wire. For the Buccaneers faithful in particular, they have been treated to several countdown lists: The greatest Bucs players of all-time, greatest Bucs play of all-time, or — TBC’s personal favorite due to its originality — worst Bucs players in the the past decade. So TheBayCave.com was inspired to do something different that hasn’t been seen or read elsewhere. And that is to find the greatest quote from a Buccaneers player or coach throughout the team’s existence. Sure it took quite some time to locate some oldies, but they were goodies.Below are some of the greatest Bucs quotes TBC can remember or found but you have the opportunity to vote on your favorite one at the end. Jon Gruden, 2004 - “The future’s so bright, I [have to] wear shades.”The Bucs were coming off of their first 0-3 start since the 1996 season. Gruden tried to stay upbeat while saying his classic one-liner with his trademark grin at the podium while addressing the media during his day-after-game press conference. The Bucs finished 5-11 in 2004.Warren Sapp, 2002 - “You so tough, put a jersey on!”Ah yes. The good ol’ challenge Sapp gave Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman after the former Packers coach confronted the Hall of Fame defensive tackle about his blindside hit on offensive lineman Chad Clifton. Sherman never accepted the challenge.Raheem Morris, 2011 - “I’ve got a young football team – ‘youngry.’”Former head coach Raheem Morris was all about giving the media good quotes much like Gruden. Following a 10-6 season in 2010, Morris said his team was young and hungry by creating the word ‘youngry.’ Unfortunately, the Bucs finished 4-12 that season and the organization fired Morris after three seasons.John McKay, 1976 - “I’ll probably take a little time off and go hide somewhere. We will be back. Maybe not this century, but we will be back and we will be a better football team.”The Buccaneers first ever head coach John McKay had a way with words and it showed at the conclusion of the 1976 season. Upon finishing 0-14, McKay offered up several different one-liners but this one clearly sums up where his thoughts were throughout the inaugural season.Lee Roy Selmon, 1995 – “I’ve visited the Hall of Fame and saw all the outstanding players in there. I could not envision myself as part of that fraternity.”Selmon was the original Buccaneer after being drafted first overall in 1976. He is also the first to be named into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Bucs in 1995 and the first ever member of Tampa Bay’s Ring of Honor (2009). The quote above sums up the kind of man he was which was in response to being named into the hall.Ronde Barber, 2002 - “Pro Bowl my ass. I’m going to San Diego.”After perhaps the most defining moment in Buccaneers history, Barber followed up his interception return for a touchdown that sent Tampa Bay to the Super Bowl with a quote that summed up the team’s confidence that season. And summed up his feelings for getting snubbed from a Pro Bowl appearance. Quotes_Zps852Cc873.Giflink
