It's an interesting debate. Baker has still been sporadic this year and now we have a recency bias since he just played so well...
Side note: Packers basically played the same weak ass zone that we've been known for... and look at that...Baker looks like a god.
This is how we managed to make journeymen QBs looks amazing over the years. Soft zone.
If teams are gonna play soft zone against Baker for the rest of his career sign me right the fuck up right now!

but this same Packers team held Mahomes and the Chiefs to 19 points just 2 weeks ago, and Jared Golf and the lions to 22 points the week before that, Justin Herbert to 20 the week before that. As a matter of fact, 34 points ties the most their defense ha given up since Detroit back in week 4.
Listen, You are right, it's likely Mayfield normal 2 touchdown passes and leading the team to 21 points is the bar. If he can exceed that bar, we have a good chance to win many weeks. If we come in at that bar, it's 50/50 and if we come under that, yeah likely to lose
I dont expect Baker to have another 4 TD game this year but can he get to 30 TDs on the year, averaging 2 TD passes a game. Yeah i think that's possible. We will see if that's enough to get us to the playoffs.
all it will take is a 17-13 loss to the Jaguars to make us iffy again. Here's hoping Rams take care of business tonight
At the beginning of the year it was Mayfield's escapability that saved a bunch of sacks. Mayfield (usually) knows how long to hang onto the ball and what to do with it when things are breaking down. So the O-line has been improving, but having good decision making from a veteran QB helps.Saw a composite ranking from 3 grading sites that ranks the Bucs 5th in the league in pass protection. Combine that with how good the WRs are….
Do not pay Mayfield. I’d offer him 1 year, $10M guaranteed. If he doesn’t want it he can go play for Washington
and you'd be quickly fired from your (second?) big money GM job lol

And thats okay because this is really part of the philosophy behind Canales offense. Its QB-friendly because its slowing down pass rush by running and boots etc and its keep us in favorable down/distance. In shirt, its perfect for someone like Mayfield
Imagine if early in the season we were RUNNING the ball like we are now and White is the passing weapon out of the back that he is now. If you add to that Canales developing as a play caller, Godwin more in his natural role then you have a pretty good offense, so which early games do we win with Baker playing at 75-80% of the Packers game?
still have a suspect defense though lol

The biggest difference, part of which is the O-line play, is that the offense has become TWO DIMENSIONAL. As White has become a threat and then Godwin used more underneath, its become impossible for defenses to just sit back.
You can see that in the article up on PR right now. An article that must drive some posters here crazy because it highlights how Canales built a "run on 1st down" tendency and then hit an explosive by playing against that tendency.
Mayfield still delivered strikes into tight windows and diagnosed plays correctly so its not like he is a cardboard cut out BUT the credit for the Packers production is Canales and Mayfield. Thats combination is probably why the Bucs are reportedly leaning to signing Mayfield
plenty of time left though for it top all go south lol
Derek Carr - 4 years, 150 million. 37.5 million per year
I mean shit man. Look how shit that contact was in year 1
Do not pay Mayfield. I’d offer him 1 year, $10M guaranteed
Yeah, that’s most likely not happening.
Licht more or less confirmed it.
My guess would be 3/$85M-$90M with an out (Y3).
That’s assuming he doesn’t completely shit the bed these next 3 games.
Because Licht is negotiating against himself. Let him go test the market and see what's out there. If someone offers him the Geno Smith deal we won't miss him. He isn't doing anything we haven't seen other QBs do with Evans and Godwin and honestly he's gotten the best tackle play outside of Brady in 2021. So everyone can have their heads up their asses and pretend the career journeyman has suddenly "figured it out" or we can all realize he has advantageous circumstances around him and there are a ton of cheaper players that could do the same if not better.
I understand the allure. He's Jeff Garcia with a better arm. When his first read is open it's beautiful. But he cannot play QB at high enough of a level to make him someone you commit nearly $100M to. And if it somehow comes down to Evans or Mayfield and we give Mayfield the money then god help us all.
The JC backpedal

and then this

hilarious because this is one of those tackles (Wirfs):
“In all honesty, we could have been like ‘OK’… All the narrative outside of this building at that time was – everything I seemed to see on Twitter was like, ‘Oh, the Bucs are going to get a quarterback in the draft or something.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, I’m playing with ‘Bake’ [Baker Mayfield] and he’s a dawg – just give us some time to get stuff rolling, to feel confident."
"player speak!"
Bucs can keep Evans, Winfield, David, mayfield and wirfs
all of a sudden the cap becomes hard to manage? Come on guys. It’s not one or the other.
all those guys should and will be back

So, what would those deals look like, factoring in the cap, dead cap, rookie pool allocation, etc.?

Who is the last star player in his prime we lost because of the cap?

funny you should ask. pewter report just wrote an article on it today. Explains it very nicely

Cliffs: They can bring everyone back if they use void years. I can also buy everything everyone I know wants for Christmas if I just simply max out my credit card.
The real question is why do cap gymnastics and sacrifice the cap long term to keep a team intact that is 4-6 outside of the NFC South. If we were in 5 or 6 other divisions all the talk would be draft and rebuild.
So yes, let’s overpay Mayfield with the Void Years credit card. It will surely work.

man, even the experts following the team are wrong?
no, your plan of starting a non qualified nfl starting QB will surely work

JC, what start player in his prime did we ship off because we were poor? There must be one?
