I went through and just couldn't get that juke out of my mind that Baker Mayfield did to Malcolm Rodriguez. So I did a search to see what others thought. Please post what you think was one of the best moves done by our players for 2024.
What were some comments nation wide or media wide about the Baker Mayfield juke move on Malcolm Rodriguez week 2 of 2024
-
"Devastating Juke" and "Sent Flying": Many outlets, like Sports Illustrated, described the move as "devastating" and commented on how Mayfield "sent Lions defender Malcolm Rodriguez flying with a nasty juke, forcing the 25-year-old to overshoot on an attempted tackle and come up with a face full of turf."
-
Surprise at Mayfield's Mobility: While Mayfield isn't typically known for being a scrambling quarterback, the play highlighted his athletic ability. Reports emphasized that he "isn't necessarily known for his mobility, but that doesn't mean he's not a capable runner."
-
"Barry Sanders-esque": The Buccaneers' own website noted that Mayfield "juked Malcolm Rodriguez with a Barry Sanders-esque cut inside to gain the first down," a high compliment given Sanders' legendary elusiveness.
-
Viral Moment: The play quickly went viral on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, with users sharing different camera angles and reacting with phrases like "Dawg lmaooooo" and "Baker Mayfield might be running back one."
-
Comparison to College Days: Some commentators suggested that Mayfield was "looking more and more reminiscent of his college self -- the same player which won the Heisman trophy," indicating a return to his fiery and elusive style of play.
-
Impact on the Game: Beyond the highlight reel, the run was significant, setting up a later rushing touchdown for Mayfield and contributing to the Buccaneers' 20-16 victory over the Lions. It was seen as a key play that energized the team and helped secure the win.
Overall, the juke move was widely praised for its impressiveness and unexpected nature, becoming a major talking point in the early part of the 2024 NFL season.
Most any punt return by Neon Deion. Barry Sanders. Marshall Faulk. Emmitt Smith. All-Pro Jukers.
Chris Carter made some insane plays laying out at the sidelines. DHop's catch in the EZ as a Card on the hail Mary by Kyler with 5 defenders surrounding him. mahomes' scramble for a TD vs. TEN back in 2019 right at the end of the first half was epic.
But Barry was the highlight reel king. Two plays in particular: the run vs. NE when he spun the DB around in a 360. And when he juked john Randle while Randle was completely airborne. And now that I'm thinking about it, Barry had a run that went for just 3-4 yds (iirc), but he ran a total distance of something like 47 yds, lol. Never seen it again on any highlight reel, but that might've been the single greatest run I've ever seen.
I wouldn't call it a juke but that 50 yard TD run for Blount was amazing vs GB.
Best juke run back I remember is Eric Wright bucs vs giants before the end of the second half at midfield. Just the situation that 23 seconds left and his ability to take it back to the house. Can't believe we lost that game, Fat Free was gonna be the original Josh Allen until he didn't love football as much anymore. I had the exact comp of Allen when he was coming out. That 55% completion percentage, big arm, mobile qb. Well Josh Allen still loves football. They developed the samish as well, keep it simple offense then add layers So unfortunate...

Dante Hall vs the broncos punt return, and his catch for a td where he made al wilson run into champ. Hall was my favorite until that Wright play jsut because its us.
Clifton smith had some nice one step cuts as well fearless little guy when returning, dante wesley cut his career short by giving him cte on an early hit givnig him his first major concussion
Bakers face is also slimmer tells me he probably also been losing some weight and getting leaner helps he doesnt have to travel/move to a new team every year and can focus on more scheduled workout, Devin white would call him fat i remember

Devin White is unemployed and still never figured out how to play LB all these years later
As far as jukers go, I think Gale Sayers left more jock straps on the field than anybody, but Barry is only behind by one to two. Sayers' 106-yard TD is one of beauty.
Yeah, that was a nice one.
What puts this one over the top for me isn't just the juke itself by Barry Sanders, it was who was juked. Sanders made a Hall of Fame Safety look like a high school schmuck.
