The NFL's Top 10 Most Epic Failures Of 2013 By Michael Grabowski February 19, 2014 7:18 pmEvery season seems to have it's ups and downs, but it seems like this season has been a pretty bad one when it comes to scandals, bad players, and bad decisions. Whether it be the Dolphins locker room, quarterbacks who've lost all of their touch, or what seems like replacement referees, the 2013 season has been a mess.Teams accross the nation have been affected by these fails over the past season. Some more than others. Even the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks have been affected. There are plenty of epic fails in the league every year, but this is the list of the top ten most epic fails.
Just missed the top 10 -- WR Riley Cooper Riley Cooper had a great year and all.But does no one remember that he's a racist?Cause I do.
Also just missed the top 10 -- The Browns Fun fact: The Browns have had 3 coaches and 3 GM's within the past 408 days. That's not even a year and a half. The Browns had a decent team this year. Yes, they probably could've done better with Brian Hoyer, but they needed to get it done. The division was lacking this year, and yet, they still failed to get anything done.I will give them props though. The Trent Richardson trade was a GREAT job!
10 -- QB Josh Freeman Josh Freeman is a doozy. He was looking at being one of the best QBs in the league, and just completely fell apart. He blamed it on the coaching, but even when he switched teams, he played terribly. We all questioned if he was going to jump back and play well, but now we're just questioning if he's going to be on a team this year.
#9 -- HC Mike TomlinWe ALL know what he did.Remember the Steelers game against the Ravens in Week 13?Remember the sideline incident?Really, Mike Tomlin? Really? Is that REALLY what you want to be remember for? Being a dirty coach?
#8 -- The Texans Ummm... What happened? The Texans were a playoff contender the past few years, and then just collapsed in a horrible agony of terrible offensive play.Fun fact: The Texans had a top 10 defense! Thank you J.J. Watt?I really have no clue what happened. But shame on the Texans for letting your team down like that.
#7 -- QB Matt Schaub This is another QB who I just don't understand. He's been in the league for a while now. He took the Texans to the playoffs the past two years, AND won 2 playoff games. But this upcoming year, he might not even be on the Texans anymore. He was outplayed by rookie Case Keenum on numerous occasions.
#6 -- QB Eli Manning My favorite player to pick on.I really dislike Eli.His season made me SO happy. He played the worst season of his career. And it was marvelous. There were Manningfaces left and right! Everywhere, as far as the eye could see!Glorious.I'm sorry, Giants fans. I just really don't like Eli.
#5 -- The Butt-Fumble: Part 2 -- QB Geno Smith The Butt-Fumble. One of the biggest disgraces in the NFL.Mark Sanchez created it.And Geno created a sequel. In Week 4, the Jets played the Titans, and Geno Smith was about to get sacked.Instead of trying to elude the rusher, throwing the ball, or even just taking a normal sack, Geno Smith decided to apply some behind-the-back trickery.
#4 -- The Falcons This was the worst of the teams that failed miserably. The Falcons were Super Bowl favorites this past year.Their offense did not play the greatest after all the injuries, but their defense played terribly.Still, they should've done much better, with the skilled Matt Ryan at the helm of the somewhat-injured Roddy White, and the greatest Tight End of all time - Tony Gonzalez.Hopefully, with Julio Jones, they'll do better next year.
#3 -- Referees This is a shout out to the HORRIBLE officiating we get EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.Now, I'm not saying that "rigging" of the NFC Championship Game is the truth, but that game is easily one of the worst officiating in a game we've had all year. This needs to stop. It wouldn't be so high on the list if it wasn't so frequent.
#2 -- Richie Incognito, Jonathan Martin, and the Dolphins OHHH MY.The biggest story of the year. This probably be number one, but there's an entire team of epic failure next. The Incognito-Martin 'bullying' event was just madness. Two, very large, adult men "bullying" each other. The Dolphins organization is getting looked down on for this as well. I understand that in the locker room, there's a different "environment," but there's no excuse for the ridiculous things that went down and how they handled it happening.Martin couldn't have gotten out of this situation unscathed, but he definitely took one of the worse ways out.Incognito, who's known for being a hot-headed bully, will most likely not be on the Dolphins next year.
#1 -- Super Bowl XLVIII I wanted one last game of football.I don't believe we got that. What happened? I mean, this was supposed to be the number one offense vs. the number one defense. It looked like the number one offense and defense vs. the Jaguars (no offense Jag's fans). This game was sad. I was almost hoping they would turn out the lights this year. The Broncos organization should be ashamed of themselves for such horrific preparation and execution. They let down their fans very harshly. http://www.footballnation.com/content/the-nfls-top-10-most-epic-failures-2013/28590/
So this biggest story of the year is #2 on this guy's list?I would say Freeman's fall should be somewhere around 5. He had one of the worst games by a QB in the history of the NFL.Think about this: the whole reason teams have a backup QB is so that a guy can come in off the bench and play well enough for the team to win. When Freeman was given that chance he didn't just fail, he failed at a historical level.Good riddance.
