Zuttah, Goldshon, and Penn are definitely cut candidates for 2015.  If the Bucs cut Joseph and Nicks in 2014 it is hard to replace both starting guards and replace Zuttah/Penn in one off season.  Meredith and Larsen are 2014 unrestricted free agents and Carimi is overpaid so that leaves the Bucs with no starters on the interior or backups.

Well Nicks isn't going to play for us either way, and it's honestly not going to be that tough to replace Joseph. He's honestly one of the worst starting guards in the league.

Cut Revis- Try to sign Tillman or Rogers-Cromartie.

Huge downgrade at CB for absolutely no reason.Tillman is getting old and coming off an injury and DRC isn't a #1 CB. This cut Revis talk is ridiculous.

In order of priority/merit for release:JosephPennKoenenIn reality Koenen may get the boot before Penn, unless a good OT (ie Matthews) falls in the draft

We don't need cap space. We are no longer going to be major players in free agency. Aside from Gerald McCoy, we have no players on this team who need to be signed long term or can be at this point. The only nonsense cap wise is $3 million plus for a punter.

A) Bootz2004: keep Joseph at $6M in 2014B) The Freeman:cut Joseph and sign Lauvao for $2-3M a year, cap saving: $3-4M$3-4M you can use this year... or/and next year (rollover)make your choice?

We're not going to be spending more than we are now though if we move some money around by releasing those guys. In fact, we could spend less money than we are now and upgrade the oline. I still think that Nicks will retire, so that will free up some money, which to me is somewhat likely. If we get Matthews then Penn is gone, this is less likely.  Zuttah is a great depth guy, but he's the jack of trades master of none, and we can't spend 4.5 million on a guy like that. Joseph is very bad, like bottom 5 starter bad. This isn't a recent thing due to his injury either, he's been playing at a poor/mediocre level since 2009. We could draft a guard in the mid rounds and they would be better than Joseph. Jamon Meredith is just as bad as Joseph, maybe even less bad, and he costs much less. We could get someone like Geoff Schwartz for 3 million a year. Then we could overpay for Alex Mack and still spend way less than we are right now.

A. A healthy Davin Joseph is a great guard. 2013 he was coming off a serious knee injury. More serious than a torn ACL. Also, where is the guarantee that Lauvao would come here? Cutting a player in HOPE that another player will come here just because you flash a few dollars is terrible business. You could be left without either one. And is Lauvao to me seems like an upgrade of Larsen instead of Joseph. He's versatile so he'd make a better swing guy than a starter.

Joseph is not a good player even when he's healthy. He has his moments here and there but at best he's mediocre.

Why are people acting like we have a lot of cap space considering the number issues this roster has and where the important ones are?Considering we need to get at least one QB either to start or be backup, that's a couple of million, we are in dire need of a pass rushing DE, there's $5+ million at the least, you need a bit for the rookies (sure that number might cover one of the first 2), a decent/NFL level #3 wideout, we only have a couple of LBers signed (we still have to one more starter signed in the unit), we need to fix the oline.Yeah no need for cap room, we can do all that with a couple of million.

There's a difference between "we don't need cap space" and "we don't have a lot"...I'm not saying we have a ton. I'm saying we don't need a ton. Name of the game now is "value". AND our new GM comes from organizations who primarily build thru the draft without free spending in FA. I'd venture to say that any move Licht makes won't be for cap reasons, other than Koenan. Can't express enough how dumb it is to spend $3 mil on a punter.Point is we aren't big spenders anymore so we don't need a boat load of cap room.

A player's contract can be voided and settled on if he can't play. It's not like you can just sign a big contract, get hurt, and sit back for 5 years and collect all of that money. Maybe his condition changes, but if not, then he's definitely going to have to retire. It's better to settle and retire and get a decent pay day rather than getting cut and only making a few more million. We're overpaying for him and Zuttah. We're overpaying for Penn too but it's not easy to replace a LT unlike guard/center. Plus, Penn was rated 18th or something, while Joseph was rated 60 something. If he hasn't been healthy in a while, what gives you the idea that he will be healthy now, especially when he's getting older? He hasn't played like a 6 million dollar a year player since 2008. It's not like it's a heterdox opinion that he's overrated and actually a bad player. Anyone can watch the tape from 2011 when he made the Pro Bowl and see a mediocre at best player that does not deserve his selection. Jamon Meredith is no worse than Joseph, and he doesn't cost as much. A 4th rounder would be better than Joseph and not cost as much. He's getting by on draft status and being a good guy, but he's not a good player.

Absolutely right. It can be settled. But he doesn't have to retire. We cut him, he gets $6 million automatically. Settlement is the best bet if we go that route.
