I've seen many of these suggestions freeing up 20+ mil. That would give us between 30 and 40 mil free. My question is, after gutting the team, who are we spending this money on? There are only a handful of FAs out there who would be upgrades to the guys you're talking about cutting, and none of them cost that much.

Exactly. We'd have it just to have it. Licht has already made it clear that we aren't going to continue the trend to splurge on free agents. Value is the name of the game. We don't need to cut guys to get more cap room.

I know we can't cut Goldson yet , but I'd try very hard to trade him ....even if it's for a 7th rounder in 2019 I would do it. Just clear the salary. We already have a Strong safety with his same skill set who is younger , better , and cheaper. ( Barron ) . We need a Free safety. Licht talks about not getting the "best" 11 players on the field , but the best "FITS" on the field , and this is a prime example.I'd blow up that O-line also. It's time to rebuild it and go younger.
Bootz2004, our Oline is a joke since 10 years... best production was with Nicks playing and we only got average production from the group.without Nicks healthy we have one of the worst Oline in the league, only Dotson had a good year... Joseph is a BUST since 5 years, he's 31 not 25 and paid like a Pro Bowler... Top 5 money for bottom 5 production isn't good value!Penn had the worst season of his career and he's declining since 3 years, he's below average since 2007, just had one good (not great) year in 2010. Penn will make $8M next year when you can sign a Veldheer or Monroe for nearly the same amount per year or for half of that a free agent like Saffold and Collins on a one-year prove it deal... or you can draft a LT at #7!Zuttah is an average OC at best and he's making Top 10 money... at best he's worth $3M, not $4.5M!
